Sergio Alcántara

Sergio Junior Alcántara Hernández (born July 10, 1996) is a Dominican professional baseball infielder in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Alcántara signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an international free agent in July 2012. He made his professional debut in 2013 with the AZL Diamondbacks and spent the whole season there, slashing .243/.398/.320 with 16 RBIs in 48 games. In 2014, he played for the Missoula Osprey where he batted .244 with one home run and 18 RBIs in 70 games, and in 2015, he played for the Kane County Cougars and Hillsboro Hops where he posted a combined .223 batting average with one home run and 28 RBIs in 91 total games between the two teams. He spent 2016 with the AZL Diamondbacks, Hillsboro, Kane County and the Visalia Rawhide, compiling a .284 batting average with one home run and 26 RBIs in 76 total games. He began 2017 back with Visalia.

On July 18, 2017 the Diamondbacks traded Alcántara along with Dawel Lugo and Jose King to the Detroit Tigers for J. D. Martinez.[1] Detroit assigned him to the Lakeland Flying Tigers and he finished the season there. In 121 total games between Visalia and Lakeland, he slashed .266/.334/.339 with three home runs, 35 RBIs, and a .673 OPS.[2]

The Tigers added Alcántara to their 40-man roster after the 2017 season.[3]

Tyler Alexander

Tyler John Alexander (born July 14, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Alexander attended Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, Texas and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 23rd round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft. He did not sign with the Tigers and attended Texas Christian University (TCU), where he played college baseball.[4] After his sophomore season, Alexander was again drafted by the Tigers, this time in the second round of the 2015 MLB Draft.[5][6]

Alexander signed with the Tigers and spent the 2015 season with the Connecticut Tigers,[7] posting an 0-2 record and 0.97 ERA in 37 innings pitched. He started 2016 with the Lakeland Flying Tigers and was promoted to the Erie SeaWolves during the season. In 25 total games (24 starts) between the two teams, he pitched to an 8-8 record and 2.44 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP. He returned to Erie in 2017, posting an 8-9 record, a 5.07 ERA, and 120 strikeouts in 27 games (26 starts).[8]

Beau Burrows

Beau Van Burrows (born September 18, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Burrows attended Weatherford High School in Weatherford, Texas.[9][10] He was selected by the Tigers in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft.[11][12][13] He signed with the Tigers, forgoing his committment to play college baseball at Texas A&M University.[14]

Burrows made his professional debut in 2015 with the GCL Tigers and spent the whole season there, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.61 ERA in ten games (nine starts). After his success in the Gulf Coast League, Burrows was promoted to the West Michigan Whitecaps for the 2016 season. He spent the whole season there and posted a 6-4 record with a 3.15 ERA in 21 games (20 being starts).[15] In 2017, Burrows spent time with both the Lakeland Flying Tigers and the Erie SeaWolves, posting a combined 10-7 record and 3.20 ERA in 26 combined starts between both teams.[16] He spent 2018 with Erie, pitching to a 10-9 record with a 4.10 ERA in 26 starts.[17]

Willi Castro

Willi Rafael Castro Capellan (born April 24, 1997) is a Puerto Rican professional baseball shortstop in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Castro signed with the Cleveland Indians as an international free agent in July 2013.[18] He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Gulf Coast Indians and spent the whole season there, batting .239 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 43 games. He played 2015 with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, where he batted .264 with one home run, 25 RBIs and twenty stolen bases, and 2016 with the Lake County Captains and Lynchburg Hillcats, posting a combined .258 batting average with seven home runs and 49 RBIs. In 2017, Castro played for Lynchburg where he batted .290 with a career high 11 home runs along with 58 RBIs, 19 stolen bases and a .761 OPS.[19] The Indians added him to their 40-man roster after the season.[20]

MLB.com ranked Castro as Cleveland's fifth best prospect going into the 2018 season.[21]

On July 31, 2018, Castro was traded to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Leonys Martín and Kyle Dowdy.[22]

Kody Eaves

Wendell Ray Kody Eaves (born July 8, 1993) is an American professional baseball second baseman for the Detroit Tigers organization.

Eaves attended Pasadena Memorial High School in Pasadena, Texas. The Angels selected Eaves in the 16th round, with the 507th overall selection, of the 2012 MLB draft.[23]

Eaves signed and spent 2012 with the AZL Angels where he batted .261 with two home runs and 19 RBIs in 42 games. In 2013, he played for the Orem Owlz where he posted a .277 batting average with one home run, 24 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases in 67 games, and in 2014, he played for the Burlington Bees where he compiled a .268 batting average with ten home runs, 45 RBIs, 37 doubles and 25 stolen bases in 130 games. Eaves spent 2015 with the Inland Empire 66ers and batted .248 with 11 home runs and 71 RBIs in 134 games.

The Angels traded Eaves to the Detroit Tigers for Jefry Marté in January 2016.[24][25] Detroit assigned him to the Erie SeaWolves and he spent all of 2016 there, batting .222 with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs in 106 games. Eaves began the 2017 season with the Erie SeaWolves, and was promoted to the Toledo Mud Hens.[26] In 96 total games between the two teams, he slashed .271/.341/.464 with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs, and an .804 OPS.[27] Eaves spent 2018 with both Erie and Toledo once again, batting .198 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 93 games.[28]

Mark Ecker

Mark Edward Ecker (born May 27, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers organization.

Ecker attended Sandra Day O'Connor High School in Helotes, Texas,[29] and Texas A&M University, where he played college baseball for the Texas A&M Aggies.[30][31]

The Detroit Tigers selected Ecker in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB draft.[32] After signing with Detroit, he was assigned to the Connecticut Tigers, and after posting a 0.50 ERA through 18 innings, was promoted to the West Michigan Whitecaps where he finished the season, posting a 1.86 ERA in 9.2 innings. In 2017, he played for both the Lakeland Flying Tigers and the Erie Seawolves, pitching to a combined 2-4 record and 3.06 ERA in 51 games between both teams.[33]

Edwin Espinal

Edwin Manuel Espinal (born January 27, 1994) is a Dominican professional baseball first baseman for the Detroit Tigers organization.

The Pittsburgh Pirates signed Espinal as an international free agent in 2011.[34] Playing for the Altoona Curve of the Class AA Eastern League in 2016, Espinal was named an Eastern League All-Star.[35] He began the 2017 season with Altoona,[36] earned a midseason promotion to the Indianapolis Indians of the Class AAA International League, and won a Minor League Gold Glove Award for his defensive performance at the end of the season[37] and became a free agent after the season.[36]

After the 2017 season, Espinal signed a minor league contract with the Tigers.[34]

Bryan Garcia

Bryan Garcia (born April 19, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Garcia attended Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida. He played for the school's baseball team as a starting pitcher, but was not selected in the MLB draft out of high school.[38] He enrolled at the University of Miami, where he played college baseball for the Miami Hurricanes baseball team. Working as a relief pitcher, he set the Miami career record for saves, and won the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award in 2016.[39]

The Detroit Tigers selected Garcia in the sixth round, with the 175th overall selection, of the 2016 MLB draft.[40] He signed with the Tigers, and made his professional debut with the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League,[41] and was later promoted to the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Class A Midwest League; in 18.2 total innings between both teams, he posted an 0-2 record and 2.41 ERA. He began 2017 with West Michigan and earned promotions to the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League, the Erie SeaWolves of the Class AA Eastern League, and the Toledo Mud Hens of the Class AAA International League. In 52 total games between the four teams, Garcia pitched to a 5-3 record, 2.13 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.[42]

Garcia tore his ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow in February 2018 and underwent Tommy John surgery on February 15.[43]

Eduardo Jiménez

Eduardo Rafael Jiménez (born April 4, 1995) is a Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization

Jiménez signed with the Detroit Tigers as an intentional free agent in July 2011. The Tigers added him to their 40-man roster after the 2017 season.[3]

Grayson Long

Grayson Ray Hays Long (born May 27, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers organization.

Long attended Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, Texas, and played for the school's baseball team, serving as their ace starting pitcher.[44] He enrolled at Texas A&M University to play college baseball for the Texas A&M Aggies.

The Los Angeles Angels selected Long in the third round, with the 104th overall selection of the 2015 MLB draft. He signed with the Angels, receiving a $548,000 signing bonus,[45] and made his professional debut with the Orem Owlz, where he spent the whole season, posting a 5.03 ERA in 19.2 innings pitched.[46] He pitched for the Burlington Bees in 2016, posted a 1.58 ERA in forty innings pitched, and was named to the league's All-Star game.[47] He was promoted to the Inland Empire 66ers in late August and started three games, pitching to a 5.14 ERA in 14 innings. He began 2017 with Inland and was promoted to the Mobile BayBears in April.

On August 31, 2017, the Angels traded Long and a player to be named later or cash to the Detroit Tigers for Justin Upton and cash.[48] The Tigers assigned him to the Erie SeaWolves, and he pitched one game for them. In 27 total games started between Inland, Mobile and Erie, Long posted an 8-9 record with a 3.01 ERA and 1.20 WHIP.[49]

Gerson Moreno

Gerson Mateo Moreno Vizcaino (born September 10, 1995) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Moreno signed with the Detroit Tigers as an international free agent in October 2012. He spent 2013 with the DSL Tigers going 2-1 with a 2.88 ERA. In 2014, he played for the GCL Tigers, posting a 1-1 record and 4.40 ERA. He spent time with both the Connecticut Tigers and the West Michigan Whitecaps, posting a combined 2-5 record and 2.89 ERA in 37.1 innings pitched between both teams. In 2016, he played for both West Michigan and the Lakeland Flying Tigers, going 1-4 with a 3.99 ERA in 44 combined games. He spent 2017 with Lakeland and the Erie Seawolves, posting a combined 1-3 record and 4.47 ERA between both teams.[50] After the 2017 season, he played in the Arizona Fall League.[51] The Tigers also added him to their 40-man roster after the 2017 season.[3] On May 30, 2018, the Tigers released Moreno but then resigned him to a minor league contract on June 6, 2018.[52]

Isaac Paredes

Isaac Paredes (born February 18, 1999) is a Mexican professional baseball shortstop in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Paredes signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in July 2015. He made his professional debut in 2016 with the Arizona League Cubs and posted a .305 batting average with one home run and 26 RBIs in 47 games. He played in three games with the South Bend Cubs that season. He started 2017 with the South Bend Cubs.[53]

On July 31, 2017, Paredes was traded along with Jeimer Candelario to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Alex Avila and Justin Wilson.[54] The Tigers assigned him to the West Michigan Whitecaps where he spent the remainder of the season. In 124 total games between South Bend and West Michigan he batted .252 with 11 home runs and 70 RBIs.[55]

Jake Rogers

Jacob Ray Rogers (born April 18, 1995) is an American professional baseball catcher in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Rogers attended Canyon High School in Canyon, Texas and played college baseball at Tulane University.[56][57] He was drafted by the Houston Astros in the third round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft.[58][59]

Rogers made his professional debut with the Tri-City ValleyCats and after batting .253 with two home runs and 12 RBIs was later promoted to the Quad Cities River Bandits[60] where he finished the season, batting .208. He started the 2017 season with Quad Cities where he posted a .255 batting average with six home runs and 15 RBIs and was promoted to the Buies Creek Astros[61] where he greatly improved, posting a .265 average with a career high 12 home runs and 55 RBIs. On August 31, 2017, the Astros traded Rogers to the Detroit Tigers along with Franklin Pérez and Daz Cameron for Justin Verlander.[62] Detroit then assigned him to the Lakeland Flying Tigers where he played in two games.[63]

Gregory Soto (born February 11, 1995) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Soto signed with the Detroit Tigers as an international free agent in December 2012. He made his professional debut in 2013 with the Dominican Summer League Tigers, pitching to a 1-2 record and 4.82 ERA in 16 games (12 starts), and returned there in 2014 where he improved, going 5-3 with a 3.20 ERA in 16 games (ten starts). He spent 2015 with the Gulf Coast Tigers and Connecticut Tigers, posting a combined 2-5 record and 3.23 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 39 total innings between the two teams, and 2016 with Connecticut where he was 3-2 with a 3.03 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 15 starts.

Soto started 2017 with the West Michigan Whitecaps and was promoted to the Lakeland Flying Tigers during the season.[64] After going 12–2 with a 2.25 ERA and 144 strikeouts between the two teams, he was named the Tigers minor league pitcher of the year.[65][66] The Tigers added him to their 40-man roster after the season.[3]

Paul Voelker

Paul Andrew Voelker (born August 19, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Voelker attended Wayzata High School in Plymouth, Minnesota and played college baseball at Des Moines Area Community College and Dallas Baptist University. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 10th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.[67] He made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Tigers, and after two scoreless appearances, and was promoted to the Connecticut Tigers where he finished the season, going 0-1 with a 2.52 ERA in 16 games. In 2015, he pitched for the West Michigan Whitecaps, Lakeland Flying Tigers and Erie SeaWolves,[68][69] compiling a combined 6-1 record and 2.11 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 55.1 total innings pitched between the three clubs. He played 2016 with Erie, collecting a 3-4 record and 4.17 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP in 52 relief appearances, and 2017 with Lakeland, Erie, and the Toledo Mud Hens, pitching to a 1-2 record and 2.00 ERA in 36 total innings between the three teams.[70]
