1E1740.7-2942, or the Great Annihilator,[3][4] is a large black hole thought to be located in the core region of the Milky Way, near the supermassive black hole Sgr A* at the Galactic Center.[5] It is one of the brightest gamma ray sources found in the Milky Way, producing massive amounts of photon pairs at 511 keV, which usually indicates the annihilation of an electron-positron pair. The Great Annihilator also has a radio source counterpart that emits jets approximately three light-years long. These jets are probably synchrotron emissions from positron-electron pairs streaming out at high velocities from the source of antimatter.
