Good Doctor (グッド ドクター, Guddo Dokuta) is a Japanese medical drama television series remake of the 2013 South Korean series of the same name, which tells the story of an autistic person who became a pediatric surgeon. It's aired from July 12 to September 13, 2018 every Thursdays at 10pm (JST) on Fuji TV. Starring Kento Yamazaki, Juri Ueno, and Naohito Fujiki. [1]

Plot

Minato Shindo (Kento Yamazaki) is autistic with savant syndrome. He has an amazing memory and keen spatial skills, but he finds it difficult to communicate with others. When he was a kid, Minato aspired to become a doctor because his older brother died when he was young. One day he met with doctor Akira Shiga (Akira Emoto) and amazed him by his ability to remember all the human organs at a young age. Doctor Akira committed to support Minato and upon the recommendation from him, Minato eventually enters the world of pediatric surgery as a resident.

Production

Development

On May 26, Fuji TV first announced they will make an adaptation of Good Doctor with Kento Yamazaki as the lead actor.[2][3] Begins with a tweet three days before on the official twitter account of Good doctor 2018 that Kento will star in the new Fuji TV drama as main lead, and then a few days later the other supporting casts were announced.[4][5]

Special screening for episode 1 was held on July 8, 2018 which was attended by three main lead of the drama.[6]

Filming

The first filming began around June 17 2018, with start a shooting from the story section of the station.[7] This is notified through the drama official twitter account.

Ratings

Good Doctor received good ratings with its first airing at 11.5%, the highest rating in the last 2 years from the same timeslot on Fuji TV.[8]

The drama aired on WakuWaku Japan in Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, and Vietnam. Starting 21 July every Saturday 9.00pm(SGP), 8.00pm (JKT).[19]
