The Giornale del Popolo is a regional daily newspaper published in Lugano, Switzerland. The Italian-language newspaper had a distribution of 10,000 as of 2018.

History and profile

Giornale del Popolo was established by the Bishopric in 1927.[1] It is a Catholic daily of the canton.[1] In the early 1990s the paper had a circulation of 23,000 copies.[1]

Since 2004 49 percent of the newspaper has been owned by the publisher of Corriere del Ticino, with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lugano retaining a majority share of 51 percent. The editor-in-chief of Giornale del Popolo is Alessandra Zumthor. On May 17, 2018 the bishop of Lugano interrupted the publication of the newspaper due to lack of money.
