Gharmala (Urdu:گھرمالہ ) is a village located in Jhelum District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is part of Jhelum Tehsil,[1] and is located at N 32° 57' 0 E 73° 41' 0 at an altitude of 229 metres (754 feet).[2] and lies along the famous Rohtas Road. The village is about 3 km west of the city of Jhelum and has a population of over 5,000. It has girls' and boys' high schools. There are two mosques in village.

Geography and climate

The village lies at the foot of Pothohar Plateau and the ground is fairly plain. It experiences all four seasons. Summer is really hot and the temperature can reach above 48 °C during June and July. The monsoon starts in the middle of July lasts for 4 to 6 weeks. Winters are mostly dry and cold but December is relatively wet and temperature can fall below 0 °C.[3] .

Village Gharmala play very important role in district Jhelum's politics. At the moment there two members of parliament from this village. Ch Khadim Hussain MNA and Ch Lal Hussain MPA. Both brothers reprsents ruling party Pakista Muslim League (Nawaz). Ch Khadim Hussain MNA is a self made person and is in politics since his early youth. He left his job as bank manager and joined politics. His younger brother Ch Lal Hussain has left his British nationality and joined Pakistan politics. He had very successful garments business in Liverpool city which is now looked after by his sons and other family members. Their family is known as "Gharmala group" in political circle of Jhelum district.

In 2018 elections Ch Khadim Hussain retired from politics. His son Ch Nadeem Khadim contested for MNA on his seat NA66 and Ch Lal Hussain contested for MPA seat from PP26. However, they both lost their seats to Imran Khan's party PTI. In NA66 Ch Furrukh Altaf beat Ch Nadeem Khadim and Ch Zafar Iqbal beat Ch Lal Hussain.

Transport

Gharmala is well-connected by different roads to other villages and to Jhelum city. Jhelum Railway Station is about 2.5 km and GT road is 2 km. Rohtas Road passes by the village on the south which leads to Jhelum City on east and to Rohtas Fort on the west. It is old track of the GT Road.
