Domeli is a village and union council of Jhelum District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is part of Sohawa Tehsil.[1]
A small dam named Domeli Dam captures attraction of the village. Basic occupation of inhabitants is cultivation. Many people of village are recorded to have jobs in Pakistan Army.The village has a railway station but express railcars do not stop there so the main transport mean for inhabitants of Domeli are buses, while nearest airport is Islamabad International Airport almost 120 km away. Transport is usually done via N-5 also known as GT Road connecting the village to Jhelum and Rawalpindi. In most of the year weather here is hot and mild. The village has a Boys high school and Girls high school, no facility of Intermediated education has been given by authorities. For further studies pupils usually go to Jhelum or Rawalpindi. The area got into limelight on media once when then Prime Minister of Pakistan Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali visited his friend.

Domeli Dam

History

Domeli village was established in 1707 by Ghakhars. Adjacent place Tilla Jogian is noticed to be mentioned in the love story of Heer Ranjha of Waris Shah. According to love story, at this place the leading character(Ranjha) came here for consolation; sublimated his love and passion in the spiritual world; got his ears pierced here as was the tradition of Guru Gorakhnath followers.[2]

Domeli is densely populated with estimated population of 8000-10000. Although, the Domeli Union Counsil has an estimated population of about 15000 to 16000. Domeli is tha largest town in whole valley. Different families resides here, commonly are Rajgan, Chaudhary, Sheikh, Malik etc.


Language

Native language of the village is Punjabi(Pothohari dialect and Majhi) languages. A majority of the people also speak Urdu.
