George M. Fredrickson

George M. Fredrickson (July 16, 1934 – February 25, 2008) was an American Edgar E. Robinson Professor of U.S. History at Stanford University from 1984 until the time of his retirement in 2002.

Career

Fredrickson was best known for his work in the fields of comparative history, along with his work in the study of the history of racism and white supremacy. Fredrickson was also the president of the Organization of American Historians. After completing his Ph.D. in history he taught first at Harvard University, then joined the faculty at Northwestern University where he held the post of William Smith Mason professor of American History. In 1984 he moved to Stanford University.
