Generation X is the 1978 debut long-player of the English punk rock band Generation X, produced by Martin Rushent.[6]

Production

"Generation X" was the first long-player release by the band Generation X. It was recorded at TW Studios, in Fulham, West London, in November/December 1977, with the producer Martin Rushent, engineered by Alan Winstanley.

"(During the recording) Martin Rushent told great jokes, but his engineer Alan Winstanley was more responsible for the sound of the album.[7]

"(The "Generation X" long-player) was cheap, it was recorded very quickly, it was fun. It was (at that time) Generation X ..."[8]

Singles releases

The record contained the pre-release United Kingdom single "Ready Steady Go", which failed to enter the top 40 in February 1978.

Chart performance

On release the record reached #29 in the United Kingdom's Albums Chart.

The band portrait used as the front cover of the record was photographed by Gered Mankowitz.

Formats

When it was originally released in the USA, it featured a different track listing, omitting three songs and adding three songs from singles and "Gimme Some Truth", a rare studio cover of a John Lennon song.[9] The album was later remastered and re-released in 2002 with the original UK track listing, and six bonus tracks from singles.

The album's song "Kiss Me Deadly" was used in the soundtrack of the 1998 movie SLC Punk.
