'The town was founded by Doad king named Shankar Sahai in 1000 AD. Hence the name Garh+Shankar. Garhshankar was converted as a Tehsil in the year of 1844 by British Govt. 'Garhshankar is a city and a municipal council in Hoshiarpur district in the state of Punjab, India.

Raja Kans's mela, is a special mela that is organized every year near Janamashtmi. Raja Kans was uncle of Lord Shri Krishna. Another famous mela is the Roshni Mela Birampur
