The Garfield television specials are a series of half-hour long American animated television specials based on the Garfield comic strip, created by Jim Davis. The specials were produced between 1982 and 1991, all directed by Phil Roman, written by Jim Davis and originally broadcast on CBS. While the first two specials were produced by Lee Mendelson Films, this boutique studio was fully committed to the production of the Peanuts animated specials and could not allocate resources for the Garfield specials. All subsequent specials were produced by director Roman's production company Film Roman[1].
All the animated specials received Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Animated Program, winning in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1989 with Garfield on the Town, Garfield in the Rough, Garfield's Halloween Adventure and Garfield's Babes and Bullets respectively.
