GMMTV (Thai: จีเอ็มทีวี, or formerly called Grammy Television) is a television production subsidiary to the Thai entertainment conglomerate GMM Grammy which produces TV programme, TV series, song, and music videos. It was founded on August 3, 1995. At present Mr. Sataporn Panichraksapong is the Managing Director of the company.
History
GMMTV Company Limited (Thai: บริษัท จีเอ็มทีวี จำกัด) formerly known as Grammy Television Company Limited (Thai: บริษัท แกรมมี่ เทเลวิชั่น จำกัด) was founded on August 3, 1995[1] with the aim of GMM Grammy executives that see the potential to develop Thai television industry to be grown, strong, and stable; Therefore they decided to separate the marketing department of its company into a particularly company to manage the television production industry. At that time Mrs. Duangjai Lorlertwit and Mrs. Saithip Montrikul na Ayudhaya were the managing directors, respectively; and the company started to produces TV game shows and music shows to be aired on Channel 3, Channel 5, Channel 7, and iTV.[2][3]
In 2007, Saithip Montrikul na Ayudhaya left the company to conveniently manage in the larger company (GMM Media Public Co., Ltd.).[4] As the result, Mr. Sataporn Panichraksapong who was the deputy managing director became the new managing director[5] and also renamed the company to GMMTV Company Limited the well known name until now. On February 2, 2009, the company started to run a cable and satellite television channel named Bang Channel by moving some of TV shows which were aired on Channel 5 to its own channel, and beginning to produce different television programme in other genres besides game shows and music shows.
On December 5, 2015, GMMTV's board of directors made the decisive vote that the company would close its cable and satellite television channel and will focus on television production for One31 and GMM 25 which are digital channels instead. As a result, Bang Channel stopped broadcasting from December 31, 2015 onwards.[6]
On August 24, 2017, In the acquisition of GMM 25 by TCC Group (Thailand),[7] GMM Grammy's board of directors resolved to waive GMMTV's 100% shareholding to GMM Channel Trading Company Limited the holding company of GMM 25 to be the new shareholder.[8] Since then the company is now a subsidiary to GMM 25 and having Saithip Montrikul na Ayudhaya, Panote Sirivadhanabhakdi, and Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi as the indirect board of directors.
Nowadays, GMMTV is still continues to mainly produce television shows, drama, and television series for One31 and GMM 25, although the company was moved to be a GMM 25's business unit.
