G.H.Raisoni College of Engineering (GHRCE) is an Autonomous, Private engineering college under Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, formerly known as Nagpur University. It is in Nagpur city in Digdoh Hill, near CRPF Gate, Hingna Road. The college was established in 1996. The director is Dr. Preeti Bajaj. In 2010, the institute was granted A Grade by University Grants Commission (India) for six years till 2016. It was the first institute in the university . The college is run by Ankush Shikshan Sanstha.

History

GHRCE was established in 1996 and run by Ankush Shikshan Sanstha. The trust is presided by Mr. Sunil Raisoni, young entrepreneur at that time.

All the UG courses are permanently affiliated by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. In 2010, the institute was granted A Grade by University Grants Commission (India) for six years till 2016; UGC has renewed this A Grade till 2022.

GHRCE is the youngest institute in the country to qualify for and to implement Technical Education Quality Improvement Fund (TEQIP) Project TEQIP-I and TEQIP-II,[1] the World Bank Assistance Projects on quality improvement.

Campus

It has a small campus with facilities like gymnasium and auditorium, two mini-auditoriums, a state-of-art central library, incubation center, innovation lab, boys hostel, indoor sports to accommodate 1500 students.

To enhance teaching-learning, the institute has partnered with IIT Powai for NMEICT and adopted modern teaching learning practices with blended MOOCs, Google classrooms, Virtual labs, QEEE.

It has executed QEEE (Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education),[4] a programme of IIT Madras under TEQIP-II. For executing this programme, it has been listed under partner category.

Admission

  • Admission criteria is based on the MH-CET/JEE-Main rankings.
  • All admissions are done strictly on the basis of merit and in a transparent manner. GHRCE has Linguistic Hindi Minority Quota.

Fests

Antaragni[5][6] (Hindi: अंतराग्नि; English: The Fire Within) is the annual cultural festival of GHRCE, held in tJanuary or February and is one of the most popular college festivals in Nagpur. The most popular feature of this fest is the celebrity night organized for the last day. In the past, popular artist like Raftaar (rapper), Neeraj Shridhar,[7] Ankit Tiwari, Javed Ali, Mohit Chauhan has performed during the celebrity night.

Technorion[8] is an intercollegiate technical event comprising technical events, technical workshops, Robowar, Line-Following competition, Lan Gaming.

In addition, every department has its own forum that regularly organizes technical and non-technical events at the department level.

IPR and patents

As per the annual report of 2016-17 published by Indian Patent Office, GHRCE stands fifth in overall patent filing. [9]

Incubation and e-Cell

To develop entrepreneurship and innovation, college has incubation center and e-Cell. Business plan competitions like R-Idea and tech business plan competitions like ‘Best Innovation Awards’ are organized every year.

Under the incubation centre, students have founded six start-ups. All these are still in incubation stage.

The institute has partnered with TiE Nagpur for Campuspreneur program under which a few students are identified for exhaustive training on entrepreneurship and start-up foundation.

Internship

Internship is one of the unique feature of academics at GHRCE. To complete graduation, every student must go through a six-week internship (including a two-week social internship with NGO) and six-month industry internship in the final year.

Choice Based Credit System

GHRCE is one of the very few engineering institute in the country to implement a Choice Based Credit System[14] in engineering education.[15]

Collaboration

The college has a Credit Transfer Scheme (CTS) with VJTI Mumbai & College of Engineering, Pune under which students from GHRCE can study one complete semester at VJTI and COEP.

Under TEQIP-II it has inked MoU with IIT Gandhinagar, VNIT Nagpur, College of Engineering Pune, VJTI Mumbai and SVNIT Surat.

IEEE Student Branch and IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) Mu Pi Chapter

IEEE STUDENT’S BRANCH GHRCE (STB 62361) Founded in December 1999 with initially 44 members,is one of the largest student branches in region-10 in terms of IEEE students membership.The students branch at GHRCE has also been awarded with the Best IEEE students Branch Award by IEEE India Council for year 2017. [16]

MU PI Chapter at G H Raisoni College of Engineering Nagpur (GHRCE), was inaugurated on 25 April 2018 by the hands of Dr.Ramkrishna Kappagantu, Former Director(2015-16), IEEE Region-10(Asia Pacific). This is the 3rd HKN Chapter in India.[17] IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) is the honor society of IEEE. It promotes excellence in the profession and in education with ideals of Scholarship,Character, and Attitude.[18]

Conferences

The institute has hosted nine international conferences among which seven IEEE International Conferences, one Elsevier International conference[19] and 30 plus National conferences. In 2008, GHRCE has started a series of IEEE conference — International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering & Technology(ICETET).[20] Seventh edition of this conference was organized in 2015 at Kobe, Japan.

Ranking and Accreditation

As per National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Ranking-2018 GHRCE ranked in the band of 101-150 in engineering category. [21]

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India has given 67 rank to GHRCE in engineering category for 2017 India Rankings.[22]

GHRCE ranked 69 in engineering category in the survey "The Best Colleges of India" conducted by India Today-MDRA for 2018. [23]

It was ranked among Top 10 Best Industry Linked Institutes by AICTE-CII Survey Report of 2013[24]

It has been ranked under Platinum category for Best Industry linked institution by AICTE-CII Survey of 2015 for 05 programs and gold for the rest.

GHRCE has been accredited with "A" grade in 2012[25] and re-accredited with "A+" grade in 2017 by NAAC.[26]

Currently, all (seven) undergraduate programs are NBA accredited under Tier-I(Washington Accord).[27]
