Frenchgate Interchange is a transport interchange located in the Frenchgate Shopping Centre in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. It has 30 bus bays, and also connects the shopping centre with Doncaster railway station.

History

The interchange was designed by local transport executive South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE)[1] and shopping centre owners Teesland. It had received planning permission by 2001, and was intended to open in 2004 at a cost of £70 million.[2]

Work on the Frenchgate interchange began in 2003. It opened in June 2006 and became the town's main transport hub, with SYPTE predicting that it would receive around 12 million passengers per year. The previous Doncaster North and Doncaster South bus stations, which dated from the 1960s and were located underneath multi-storey car parks, were closed. However, the South Bus Station remained a multi storey car park and has recently become the main car park for the developing civic area. [1]

Bus

The Interchange is used by all bus companies that serve Doncaster. First South Yorkshire is the town's largest and central bus operator, with Stagecoach Yorkshire, Stagecoach East Midlands, Arriva Yorkshire, Wilfreda Beehive and Powells Bus serving outer destinations.

Services to Doncaster Sheffield Airport in Finningley also operate from the Interchange. The X4 First South Yorkshire express service operates every 30 minutes between the airport and the interchange from Monday to Saturday. An hourly service operates on a Sunday.

Rail

Doncaster railway station is situated on the East Coast Main Line. There are currently seven train operators that call at Doncaster, including London North Eastern Railway, TransPennine Express and Northern.
