Frankfort High School is a high school in Short Gap, West Virginia, United States which houses over 600 students from Ridgeley, Short Gap, Ft. Ashby, Wiley Ford, and Carpendale. The school mascot is the falcon and the school colors are Columbia blue and silver. As of the end of the 2016-17 school year, the principal was Joseph Riley.

History

Frankfort High School was built as a result of the consolidation of Fort Ashby High School and Ridgeley High School. The first graduating class was in 1977.

Extracurricular activities

Athletics

The baseball team won the state championship in 1988[2] and the girls' track team were state champs in 2013.[3]

The following sports are offered at Frankfort:

  • Fall: soccer, football, golf, cross country, volleyball
  • Winter: basketball, wrestling
  • Spring: baseball, softball, tennis, track

Arts

The high school hosts three separate instrumental ensembles, including marching band, concert band, and a jazz ensemble. The marching band has over 80 members as of the 2014 season and the concert band has over 70 members as of 2015. As of the 2016-2017 school year the band consists of 75 student members.

The marching band was selected to represent West Virginia in the second Inaugural Parade of President Barack Obama on January 21, 2013.[4] In 2017, the band was selected to represent West Virginia in the Inaugural Parade of President Donald Trump on January 20, 2017.[5]

The drama department hosts four events throughout the year, including dinner theater, a county wide talent competition, a Christmas program for students, and the Mr. Falcon competition.
