Formula, Vol. 2 is the second studio album by American singer Romeo Santos, released on February 25, 2014 by Sony Music Latin. The album took effect by the success of its first two singles, "Propuesta Indecente," or "Indecent Proposal," with a zest of bachata-tango mix and "Odio," or "Hatred", featuring Drake, which spent seventeen combined, non-consecutive weeks atop the Hot Latin Songs charts and have remained in the top 5 of the chart for 98 of its 100 weeks.[1]

Right after its release, the album hit number one in different countries as well as fifth place in the U.S. The album has well-known artists from the Latin and pop world such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, Marc Anthony, Tego Calderón and others.[2] Each of the songs in the album has its own world and meaning. Each of them with an experience to share, to give, or to appreciate.

Not only was the album famous for making history in filling out the stadiums[3] and selling out tickets, but also for the music video for Yo También (a song on the album) being viewed over 530 million times on YouTube.[4] The album contains songs that are composed with their significant meaning that carries more than bachata in one song. In all of this styles of songs, the songs gives us a message of love, unloved, and lust.

Commercial performance

The album debuted at number 5 on the US Billboard 200, selling 85,000 copies in its first week, for the week ending March 2, 2014.[5] 85,000 copies made it the fastest-selling Latin Album in six years. Since its release, the album has been certified 11× Platinum in the Latin category for shipping over 660,000 copies. However, it has only sold 245,000 copies in the United States as of January 2015 as tracked by Nielsen SoundScan.[6]

Performance

Within a week of the released of Formula, Vol. 2 on February 25, 2014, the album hit the Billboard's Top Latin Albums since 2006 for the Latin Album category. Formula, Vol. 2 has been so popular that on July 2014, a performance in the Yankee Stadium was sold out for two nights in a row. In 2015, Formula, Vol. 2 went on a world tour, not only selling out stadiums tickets, but making the artist the first Latin artist to make it happen.[7]

Singles

In "Propuesta Indecente" or "Indecent Proposal", It's a story about of seduction, adventure and a one-night stand, which the video was shot in Buenos Aires with the Mexican actress, Eiza Gonzalez who brought greater success.[8] The song "Odio" or "Hatred", featuring the rapper Drake tells us the story of a broken heart suffering for their love one. "Eres Mía" or "You're Mine" tells us the story of a woman marrying a man who she doesn't love, which video was shot in New York City. "Yo También" or "I, Too", featuring Marc Anthony, sings about the rivalry of a man's love for his former girlfriend, which video was shot in Dominican Republic. Debating who loved her the most. Each song is unique connecting with Latin genres that makes bachata connect to a world of dance.
