Floridatragulus, synonym Hypermekops, is an extinct genus of Camelids. It lived in North America during the Miocene, about 20.6—15.9 mya, existing for approximately 4.7 million years.[1]

Taxonomy

Floridatragulus was named by White (1940). Its type is Floridatragulus dolichanthereus. It was assigned to Camelidae by White (1940) and Carroll (1988).[2]

Morphology

Four specimens were examined for estimated body mass by M. Mendoza, C. M. Janis, and P. Palmqvist. These specimens were estimated to weigh:

  • 124 kg (270 lb)
  • 66.7 kg (150 lb)
  • 78.0 kg (170 lb)
  • 67.7 kg (150 lb) [3]
