Fist of Fury 1991 (新精武門1991) is a 1991 Hong Kong comedy film directed by Cho Chung-sing, and starring Stephen Chow in the lead role.[1] Aside from a few parodied scenes, the film bears no other similarities to the Bruce Lee film, Fist of Fury, except in title only. A sequel, "Fist of Fury 1991 II", was released the following year.

Synopsis

Some scenes do bear some resemblance to Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury including the dojo fight where the Japanese man is forced to eat the sign. Chow stars as Lau Ching, a mainland country boy hoping to earn a living in Hong Kong in same timeline of God of Gamblers where the Saint of Gamblers (also portrayed by Chow) and his uncle make a cameo appearance.

Upon reaching Hong Kong, he finds his luggage stolen, but soon becomes fast friends with the thief, Smart. Together, they try to improve their financial situation through various odd jobs, until Smart discovers Ching's special ability, his extremely strong right arm, and then convinces him to enter a MMA tournament in the hopes of winning the prize money.

The two soon learn that they need to be registered with a school in order to compete. While trying to enter Chiu Tung's School, an underground fighter who conduct illegal mob-fighting. They encountered Master Fok Wan of Fok's school, a veteran martial artist with superb skills despite suffering from ageing illness. Realizing Lau and Smart's good-in-nature, Master Fok decided to take them as students. Learning under the spiteful First-student Kwok Wai and Master Fok's daughter, Fok Man. It didn't take Lau and Smart too long to begin earning beautiful Man's affection. As they race to deliver their love letters, Man mistaken Smart's letter being Lau's due to coincidences. That result in Smart tastes the bitter part of love while taking role of the postman within the triangle and Man's brother figure.

Spending few months as Master Fok's student, Lau reunited with his brother in worst way possible: the other Lau was attempt to break in while Smart found Kwok want to rape unconscious Man. Caught between both crimes and framed by the powerful First-student. Master Fok had no choice but to expel Lau and Smart out of school. What's worse is that Lau mistaken Smart for middle with his love letters to now heartbroken Man, causing him to leave Smart and his new-found justice in rubbish.

Guided to four retired underground fighters by his brother, Lau decided to join the MMA tournament under alias of New Jingwu School. With refined skills and rigorous training, Lau breakthrough the match by overcome various foes like Chiu as aloof Smart watch his advances secretly. Master Fok, who conform his First-student's betrayal secretly, admitted his mistake to his most beloved student in semi-final. Now begin their honorable fight and final lesson, the master and student fought with their earnest and respect to each others. Resulted in Master Fok relented due to Lau's fist and care for his daughter. As the veteran fighter weaken by his illness and the fight with Lau, Kwok mercilessly choked his own master and added it to Lau's account by challenge him in a fight-to-death final. It was one of Master Fok's student confess the truth to Man, who was surrounded by other rogue students. Only for Smart to arrives in time and cover Man's escape out of brotherly love. In the final round, Lau is unable to fight Kwok under grief of killing his loving master while the vermin keep launching death blows. Man rushed to reveal the true killer and get Lau determined for showdown. Combined the Four's and Master Fok's skills, Lau's training is completed and Kwok soon found his skills overwhelmed. Lau gave out his best punch in memory of Master Fok, killed Kwok and became the champion. As Smart walk out the scene in quiet, he found himself greeted by Lau and Man, the duo embraced each other's like brothers.
