Living First Ladies
As of October 2018, there are six living former First Ladies, as identified below.
The most recent First Lady to die was Violeta Correa (served 1980–1985), wife of Fernando Belaunde Terry, on June 1, 2001, at the age of 74. The greatest number of former First Ladies to be alive at one time was 6, during the period from March 28, 2018 to present. All first ladies following Juan Velasco's coup d'etat in the 1960s are still alive, with the exception of Violeta Correa.
Corruption scandals
Much like their husbands, a number of First Ladies of Peru have been vindicated with charges of corruption under their spouse's administration.
Elaine Karp Toledo
Former-president Alejandro Toledo's spouse, France-borne Eliane Karp, has been accused of money laundering. She has testified under Congress in 2013.3
Nadine Heredia Humala
The wife of the controversial president Ollanta Humala was accused of multiple crimes, and was arrested one year following Humala's administration and sent to testify under oath.[1]
