Finley the Fire Engine

Finley the Fire Engine is a 2006 American-Canadian-British CGI children's cartoon series produced by Balley Beg Animation Studios[1] in Douglas, Isle of Man.

The show is about talking vehicles in a fictional town called Friendlyville. Each episode has a plotline: for example, in The Eyes Have It, Jesse learns that wearing spectacles is no reason to be embarrassed. It is aimed at 2 to 6 year olds.

A British dub exists from 2007 exists, featuring the voices of Justin Fletcher (Miguel), Jon Fox, Callum Hanks (Finley), Janet James (Jesse), Jay Simon (Dex/Suds), Jonty Stephens, and Emma Tate (Isabelle/Scooty/Abigail). The voice recording studio and final mix is provided by Ten Pin Alley Limited.

78 episodes are planned, each running for 15 minutes. The series was shown in Britain by the BBC's children's channel, CBeebies, from 23 July 2007 until 30 November 2012. [2][3] The show also aired on ABC in Australia from 18 March 2008 until 4 May 2014.

Characters

Main characters
  • Finley is a male red fire engine who is of course, the main protagonist of the show. He is good-willed and generous, lives in Fire Station No. 5, and loves nothing better than having fun with his highway pals. He sometimes sleeps with his teddy bear, Diesel. He is voiced by Callum Hanks in the UK and Reece Thompson and Chancellor Miller in the US.
  • Dex (sometimes known as Dexter) is a male blue dump truck who is the semi-anti hero of the show. In "I Dare Ya", he tried to force Finley to jump over a big muddy puddle without acting like a chicken wagon. Despite being a bit of bully, Dex has a softer side and always grateful for Finley's kindness towards him. He is voiced by Jay Simon in the UK and Andrew Francis and Richard Steven Horvitz in the US.
  • Captain Parker is a male older red senior fire engine and is also Finley's older brother who always keeps the gang in check. He is voiced by Dean Smith in the US.
  • DJ is a tomboyish female orange front loader, excavator, or digger (although described on the site as a bulldozer) who enjoys nothing better than digging. It reveals in "Lights Out" that she sometimes sucks her scooper when she goes to sleep. She is voiced by Maggie Blue O'Hara and Cristina Pucelli in the US.
  • Jesse is a female yellow-and-pink tow truck with a siren shaped like a bow and a red nose. She is usually timid and shy, but she is always ready and raring to come to the rescue. She is voiced by Janet James in the UK and Chantal Strand and Cristina Pucelli in the US.
  • Isabelle is a female green-and-purple ice cream van who is very polite, bubbly, loveable and cheerful. In "Lights Out", she is afraid to tell everyone that she sleeps with her headlights on in case they laugh at her. She also has feelings for Finley. She is voiced by Emma Tate in the UK and Andrea Libman and Tara Strong in the US.
  • Abigail is a female white ambulance who is kind, gentle, and sweet. She is voiced by Emma Tate in the UK and Teryl Rothery and Tara Strong in the US.
  • Miguel is a male silver mail truck who is very professional and organized. In "Lights Out", it is revealed that he sleeps with his parking lights on. One time he tested Scooty's new game without his permission to do so. He is voiced by Justin Fletcher in the UK and Matt Hill and James Arnold Taylor in the US.
  • Gorby is a male green recycling truck who is Finley's best friend. He can be a bit cheeky and goofy however, he is hard-working, reliable, and dutiful. He is voiced by Lee Tockar and Quinton Flynn in the US.
  • Scooty is a male yellow school bus who can get a bit nervous. He is voiced by Emma Tate in the UK and Danny McKinnon and Carlos Alazraqui in the US.
  • Hubert is a male blue-and-white police car who solves mysteries. He is voiced by David Paul Grove and Quinton Flynn in the US.
  • Scout is a male Dalmatian who is both Finley's best friend and also the latter and Captain Parker's pet Dalmatian with a few blue spots on his white fur.
