FindFace is a website that lets users search for members of the social network VK by uploading a photograph.

It was created by Artem Kukharenko, Maxim Perlin and Alexander Kabakov - Ntech Lab Ltd. co-founders.[1][2][3]

AS OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2018 FINDFACE.RU IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AS A SERVICE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO SEARCH FOR PEOPLE USING A PHOTO

Technology

FindFace employs a facial recognition neural network[4] algorithm developed by N-Tech.Lab[5][6] to match faces in the photographs uploaded by its users against faces in photographs published on VK,[7] with a reported accuracy of 70 percent.[8] Different sources pointing NTech Lab's technology accuracy from 85.081%[9] to 99%[10]

In 2015 NTechLab algorithm won The MegaFace Benchmark challenge, organized by University of Washington.

Public incidents

In 2016, FindFace generated controversy because it was used to systematically deanonymize Russian pornography actresses and alleged prostitutes.[4][11] These efforts were organized by users of a Russian imageboard who claimed that women in the sex industry are “corrupt and deceptive”, according to Global Voices.[12] In addition, FindFace has been characterized as a major step in the erosion of anonymity.[5][13]
