Fatimah Salem A. Baeshen[1] is a Saudi former civil servant and consultant who currently serves as a spokeswoman for the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington, D.C. Baeshen is the first woman to hold a spokesperson position in the Saudi Arabian government.[2][3][4][5][6]

Early life and education

Baeshen was born in Saudi Arabia and raised in the United States.[7][8] She grew up in Oxford, Mississippi.[9] She received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master's degree in Middle Eastern studies (focusing on Islamic finance) from the University of Chicago.[10]

Career

Prior to her appointment to the Saudi Embassy, Baeshen was a director of the Arabia Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank founded in 2017.[11] She has also been an economic consultant to the World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and Emirates Foundation.[12]

She has also contributed columns to Arab News and Time.[13]
