Father Murphy (band)

Father Murphy is a neopsychedelic and noise-rock band based in Turin, Italy.[1]

Biography

The band emerged from the partnership of Federico (Freddie) Zanatta, Chiara Lee, and former drummer Vittorio Demarin (who used the name GVitron).[1]

Their first EP, eponymously titled, came out from Madcap Collective, one of whose founders was Zanatta.[2] Early on, the band changed lineups frequently, then stabilized as a trio at the end of 2004.

Father Murphy's second release was When We Were Young The World Wasn't In Your Hands, a split CD with a parallel project of Zanatta's called Mrs France.

Six Musicians Getting Unknown came out in 2005, followed by a long Italian and German tour. The following year saw the release of a split album with Lorenzo Fragiacomo.

The 2008 release of "... and He told us to turn to the Sun" (Agoo Records, USA, and Boring Machines, Italy) signaled a sudden change in the band's style and an increase in touring; they played nearly 300 live shows in a three-year period. The EP "No Room for the Weak" came out the same year, also from Aagoo and Boring Machines.

The band released an album in 2018, Rising. A Requiem for Father Murphy. On the top inside cover is written "Father Murphy 2001 - 2018" which has been taken to mean that the band is breaking up in 2018.[3]
