Sheik Mohamed Fankaty Dabo (born 11 October 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays for Sparta Rotterdam, on loan from Chelsea, as a defender.

Club career

Chelsea

Dabo joined Premier League side Chelsea in 2007 at under-12 level.[3] Dabo began to establish himself in the under-18 side in the 2012–13 campaign, in which he featured thirty-two times, scoring once. He was a key figure in Chelsea's FA Youth Cup victory in the 2013–14 campaign under manager Dermot Drummy.

On 9 April 2016, Dabo was handed the number 39 jersey ahead of Chelsea's away fixture against Swansea City, but failed to appear in their matchday squad.[4]

Swindon Town (loan)

On 11 January 2017, along with Chelsea teammates Charlie Colkett and Islam Feruz, Dabo joined League One side Swindon Town on loan for the remainder of the 2016–17 season.[5] Three days later, Dabo made his Swindon Town debut in a 2–1 away victory against Bolton Wanderers, featuring for the entire 90 minutes.[1] On 5 February 2017, Dabo scored his first goal for Swindon in their local derby against Oxford United. Opening the scoring in the 19th minute, before goals from Liam Sercombe and Robert Hall secured a 2–1 victory for Oxford.[6]

Vitesse (loan)

On 25 June 2017, Dabo joined Dutch side Vitesse on a season-long loan.[7] On 5 August 2017, Dabo made his Vitesse debut during their 1–1 draw with Feyenoord in the Johan Cruyff Shield final. Feyenoord subsequently won 4–2 on penalties.[8] A week later, he made his league debut during Vitesse's 4–1 home victory over newly-promoted, NAC Breda.[9] On 19 November 2017, during Vitesse's 4–2 away defeat to Groningen,[10] Dabo remarkably scored a 35-yard own goal, which received global attention.[11]

Sparta Rotterdam (loan

In August 2018 Dabo returned on loan to the Netherlands, this time with Sparta Rotterdam.[12]

International career

Dabo was born in England and is of Sierra Leonean descent.[13] He has represented England at under-16, under-17 and under-20 youth levels.[14]
