Phagun Bou (Bengali: ফাগুন বউ); is an Indian Bengali television soap opera that premiered on 19 March 2018 and airs on STAR Jalsha daily. It has been produced under Magic Moments Motion Pictures of Saibal Banerjee and Leena Gangopadhyay. The show stars Vikram Chatterjee and Oindrila Sen in the lead roles of "Ayandeep" and "Mohul" respectively.[1] This show marks the comeback of Vikram Chatterjee [2] and Oindrila Sen [3] on television, the latter after 6 years (since Oindrila's portrayal of "Dushtu" in Zee Bangla's mega serial, "Saat Paake Bandha").

The show had a TRP of 6.4 in its first week.[4] The show which is based on the idea of finding true love, with the backdrop of music, has also been shot in parts of North Bengal.[5] This show also marks the pairing of Vikram and Oindrila, for the second time since Saat Paake Bandha[6]. In the third week of June 2018, Phagun Bou became the most watched show on its airing channel, Star Jalsha.[7]

Synopsis

Phagun Bou deals with the whimsical nature of the relationship that develops between Ayandeep and Mohul, two strangers destined to be together for life. The series traces the true course of the blossoming love between the two after many ups and downs in their relationship, where Mohul was initially inclined towards Ayandeep's brother, Anurup.

Mohul is a 25 years old fun-loving and fashionable girl, pursuing her Master's degree in English Literature, who aims to achieve something big in life through her inherent talent in the field of music. She lives with her parents (Chandrajit and Amrapali), and younger brother, Munna in a guest apartment (provided from her father's office) in Asansol. Mohul looks up to rising star and singing sensation Anurup with great love and admiration. Anurup, who is a typical casanova (womanizer) and hence, considered the most eligible bachelor at 30 years of age, casually flirts with her leading Mohul to believe that he is romantically interested in her and thus, Mohul's feelings towards Anurup blossoms into love. And then on, she looks forward to meeting Anurup at his stage performances. On one such occasion, Anurup brings along with him his elder brother, Ayandeep who is 31 years old, a doctor by profession, and extremely shy and introvert by nature. Humanitarian and a devoted son to his parents, Ayandeep has left on his family the important task of finding an ideal match for him, and has decided to genuinely give all his love, heart and soul to whoever his wife would be. Mohul bumps into Ayandeep who falls in love with her at first sight. However, Mohul considers her to be silly and clumsy. They further meet at Shantiniketan during Dol Utshab, as Ayandeep seeing Mohul's beauty, liveliness and colourfullness, attributes to her the name " Phagun Bou ".

Meanwhile, it is revealed that unbeknownst to Amrapali, Mohul and Munna, Chandrajit is previously married to Bidhumukhi - uncultured, outgoing, quarrelsome, boastful and blunt in attitude. Much to his unwillingness, his parents got him married to their chosen girl, Bidhumukhi; but being totally oppressed and tormented by her attitude, Chandrajit took transfer to Asansol, where he met, fell in love and then married Amrapali. However, he couldn't divorce his first wife due to such thing being beyond the culture and hurtful to his parents, and also because he fathered Bidhumukhi's daughter, Bibi who grew to become scatterbrained, but is good and caring at heart and straight-forward in nature. He tried to get her married, but couldn't find any suitable groom for her, and hence, remained tensed regarding Bibi's future. On the other hand, Mohul gets a phone call from Anurup, who after his usual flirting over-line, casuaaly proposes love to Mohul, and they later go on a date after Mohul goes to Kolkata. That day Mohul who fails to catch the return bus to Asansol in time, feels unsafe in the unknown place, but is then assisted by Ayandeep who spots her and drives her all the way back home, where he meets Mohul's family and bods with Munna especially, who merrily calls him "Driver Dada", as per the (false) introduction he gave. Chandrajit takes a liking to him and thanks him for his earnest help.Later, he along with Amrapali, Mohul and Munna went on a trip to Kalimpong where coincidentally Mohul met Ayandeep once again and finally get to know that he is a doctor, after he helps Chandrajit to recover from his downtrodden health. Chandrajit wishes Mohul to get married to someone like Ayandeep.

Soon after return Chandrajit passes away due to a fatal heart attack. However, just moments before dying, he calls Ayandeep and expresses him his last desire that Ayandeep should marry Mohul. After, his death, the truth of his dual life and two marriages get revealed, and since Bidhumukhi his first wife, gets all his property legally, Amrapali and her children have to rely on her and the Bose family for their maintenance. They go to Kolkata to live in the Bose household, where they have to face constant humiliation from the family members, especially. However, others like Chandrajit's father, Indrajit, Bibi, her cousin sisters- Mou and Piu and their mother Jaya become close to them, as they try to adjust with their new lifestyle as per the rules and regulations of the Bose family. Meanwhile Ayandeep, who has got incidentally engaged to Mou, stands by them in their tough times, even getting Munna admitted to a good English medium school. Thereafter, he secretly asks Amrapali for Mohul's hand in marriage but she declines, thinking of the Bose family's favours on them. Later, he finally confesses love to Mohul but she turns him down as well, getting the point clear that he is not the kind of guy she likes, and she loves someone else. However, a disheartened Ayandeep can't let go of his feelings for Mohul that easily and goes through a tough emotional phase. On the other hand, Mohul asks Anurup to marry her and rescue her from her current situation, but Anurup who was never serious regarding Mohul indirectly refuses her taking into account his and Mohul's careers' sake. A heart-broken Mohul decides to walk alone on her path to struggle for ensuring herself, her mother and her brother a better-living; while Ayandeep once again expresses his desire to become Mohul's companion in her struggle. This marks the background for a complicated love triangle to begin among Mohul,Anurup and Ayandeep.
