Estrons is a Welsh punk rock band based in Cardiff. The band features Tali Källström (vocals), Rhodri Daniel (guitar), Steffan Pringle (bass), and Adam Walton (drums).[1]

The band's debut album You Say I'm Too Much, I Say You're Not Enough was released in 2018.

History

The bands roots trace back to 2013 when Welsh-Canadian lead singer, Tali Källström, met guitarist Rhodri Daniel in Aberystwyth.[2] After meeting, the two began collaborating musically, which lead to the creation of "Estrons", which is Welsh for "misfits". Daniel wrote their garage pop influenced single "Make A Man" while at a Berlin nightclub.[2] The second song of their's "Drop" was written in a police cell after their first concert in Cardiff. This was following a romantic breakup Källström was going through. “I drank five shots of tequila one after another and cried onstage,” she admits. “I took off my shoes and threw them into the crowd. My fiery personality when things go wrong – you can hear a lot of that in Estrons’ music.”[2]

"Make a Man" received critical acclaim for it's intense criticism of female objectification and toxic masculinity. Källström described it as ""the story of a heterosexual female’s battle between desiring a man, whilst simultaneously finding herself having little respect for his self-important ego and misogynistic attitude towards women. She retaliates by objectifying him herself".[3] The song was first released on the band's Soundcloud account on 25 September 2015,[4] while the music video came out on 3 November 2015.[5] On 4 December 2015 the song was released as a single.[6]

"Drop", the band's second single came out on the band's Soundcloud on 7 April 2016. The song was written while Källström was in jail. "I got arrested. And I was bored. So I just started reciting these lyrics. No wonder I ended up getting charged, they must have thought I was mental. I was fine in the end."[7] "Drop" was released as a standalone single on 5 May 2016.[8]

On 3 November 2016, about a year following their debut single, Estrons released their debut extended play, She's Here Now.[9] The E.P. was described by Noisey as "blistering", and that the songs "don't skirt around their topics—they dive into them head first like a rugby player hurtling towards a kebab shop".[10] Cool Brother praised the musicianship with "virulent, unrelenting drums, catchy riffs and staccato, oblique lyrics."[11]

A year later, Estrons released their third single, "Strobe Lights". The song itself was released on 28 April 2017. The music video was released on their Vevo page on 5 June 2017.[12] The song was considered a "back to the basics" track by DIY magazine.[13] The year concluded with the band opening for Honeyblood on their tour.[13]

In 2018, the band released three singles ahead of the debut album: "Lilac", "Cameras", and "Body". Their debut album You Say I'm Too Much, I Say You're Not Enough was released on 5 October 2018 through Goford Records.[14][15][16]
