El Balyana (Coptic: ⲧⲡⲟⲩⲣⲁⲛⲏ[1], Arabic: البلينا) is a small town in the Sohag Governorate of Upper Egypt. Located on the west bank of the Nile, it is situated near the ancient Egyptian city of Abydos.

El Balyana's history

The city of El-Balyana has a long history, and the reason for the name, as historians predict, was that Paulina was referred to the ancient Egyptian queen (descendant of the King Mina), Queen of Paulina. It has been distorted over the ages from Polina to Plina and then to El-balyana, which is the name known now and the famous temple Abidos goddess buried buried, which dates back to the time of the ancient Egyptians. Al Balyana was formerly a village belonging to the city of Bardes or the region of Bardes and then at the beginning of the last century was transferred to the center of the town of Balyana and became Bardes, a village belonging to the city of Balyana.
