Dorud (Persian: دورود, also Romanized as Dorūd, Dūrūd, and Dow Rūd)[2] is a city in and capital of Dorud County, Lorestan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 159,026 in 23,596 families.[3] The name Dorud means "where two rivers meet", where "Do" means two, and "rud" means river.

Sports

Dorud has one main football team, Gahar Zagros F.C., which plays in the Azadegan League (2nd Division) of Iran. Gahar Zagros was the first team from the Province of Lorestan to make it to the Persian Gulf Pro League.

Government Protests in 2017

At least 2 people were killed in Dorud on 30th of December during 2017 Iranian protests.[4] The New York Times reported 2 people killed in Dorud on 20th of December during 2017 Iranian protests. [5] In an interview on state television, the Deputy Governor of Lorestan Province blamed demonstration violence on “enemies of the revolution, Takfiri groups and foreign agents…No shots were fired by the police and security forces.” [6]
