Dil Se Diya Vachan

Dil Se Diya Vachan is an Indian television series based on the story that showcases a powerful true life story about the deep love, trust, bonding and attachment between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law.^[1] It is a remake of the Tamil serial Idhayam which aired on Sun TV. The series premiered on Zee TV on 25 October 2010, and stars Neena Gupta in the mother-in-law's role and Vandana Joshi in the daughter-in-law's role.^[2]

This serial was a hit among the audience, but the creative team decided to pull the show off-air as the main backbone of the show, Neena Gupta aka Dr. Kalyani could not continue with the serial due to medical reasons.

The story is about a shy and simple girl named Nandini, who lives with her sister Pallavi and brother-in-law Gautam Karmarkar in Pune. Gautam's mother, Jayshree Karmarkar dislikes Nandini and sees her as a burden on her family, however Nandini puts these insults and taunts over her shoulder for the sake of her sister's married life. Gautam's younger sister Sumati adores Nandini and sees her as a sister. On the other side is the Rajadhyaksha family, Dr. Kalyani Rajadhyaksha, the main protagonist is a gynaecologist, she wants her youngest son Prem to get married and so arranges to go see a girl and talk of marriage. This girl turns out to be Sumati Karmarkar, however Prem is not interested in arranged marriage and wants to find love. On their way to Sumati's house Prem bumps into Nandini at a traffic signal and falls in love with her immediately. Nandini is adamant to go back home because she feels uncomfortable by Prem's presence. Prem is adamant that he will only marry Nandini because he has fallen in love with her at first sight but he still goes to Sumati's house. At Sumati's house Prem sees Nandini and realises that she is from that family, he tells Kalyani to arrange the marriage with Nandini instead, this leaves the Karmarkar family in complete shock. Nandini feels bad because the proposal that was for Sumati has now been suggested for her, so she tries to persuade Kalyani to make Prem marry Sumati. Kalyani cannot give into her son and goes to the Karmarkar house with a proposal for Nandini. Gautam agrees and they start preparing for the grand wedding. However, Prem wants to make sure that Nandini loves him just as much as he loves her, he takes her to a place and confesses his love. Policemen arrive and start misbehaving with Nandini which Prem cannot tolerate, they both end up in jail whilst at home both of their families are waiting for them to do their engagement. Krushna (Gautam's younger brother) turns up at the police station and gets them both released. Nandini and Prem get engaged. Before their wedding day a letter is sent to the Rajadhyaksha house saying that Nandini has a past and Prem shouldn't get married to her, this creates doubt, but Prem is adamant to not break his promises given to Nandini. After their wedding day, Kalyani opens her front door to see someone has left a baby with a letter on her doorstep, the letter says that the baby is Nandini's. Kalyani decides to keep this hidden from everyone including Nandini and takes care of the child. Nandini develops a strong bond with the baby which creates doubt in Kalyani even more, so she confronts her but Nandini claims that she has nothing to do with the baby. Kalyani's eldest daughter-in-law Urmila and mother-in-law find this letter and purposely show it to Prem. In order to clear her name, Nandini agrees to do a medical test to prove that she is not related to the baby. Kalyani tells the whole family that the test came out negative and Nandini is not related to the baby, but she takes Gautam and Pallavi into her office to ask them something. Turns out that even though Nandini is not related to the baby, she had once given birth to a child. Gautam and Pallavi tell Kalyani the truth, Nandini was raped during a family wedding and as a result she gave birth to a stillborn baby. However Nandini went into a coma after she was raped and as a result she doesn't remember anything about her past. Kalyani is puzzled as to how she will tell this truth to her family. On Nandini's birthday, Nandini goes to her sister's house and overhears Pallavi and Gautam talking about the incident and so learns the truth about her past, she feels disgusted and betrayed, but she also feels that she has betrayed Prem. She worries as to how she will face Prem and his family. Kalyani makes Nandini promise her that she will keep this truth from Prem and the entire family and that she will maintain a distance from Prem. During the day of Prapti's (Prem's younger sister) and Mayank's engagement, Nandini goes into a storeroom to get something, these steps make her have faint flashbacks of her past but she cannot fully remember. Someone touches her from the back, and she is shocked to see Krushna. She recalls everything there and then, she remembers that it was Krushna who followed her into the storeroom and raped her on that wedding day. Krushna confesses that it was him, he claims he loves her and brutally misbehaves with her, but Nandini is unable to call for help because the door is locked and she is worried about the consequences of telling everyone the truth. Krushna continues to harass Nandini for many days warning her that her only option is to surrender herself to him or he will harm Prem. Krushna creates many misunderstandings between Nandini and Prem, Nandini feels pressurised and wants to tell Prem the truth. She decides to tell Prem the truth and confess her love for him as well by recording a message on a tape recorder which Prem listens to. Prem is unable to hear the complete message but goes to Nandini anyway. Dadi and Urmila find the tape recorder and hear the entire message they're shocked to learn the truth. Prem finds Nandini at the hilltop where she tells him that she loves him and assumes that Prem knows the entire truth now and is happy for their relationship to move forward. When they reach home, the message is being replayed and Prem is shocked to hear about Nandini's past, he blames her for betraying him and keeping him in the dark, Kalyani defends Nandini and reminds everyone that it wasn't Nandini's fault that she was raped. Nandini has to leave her in laws house alone, she meets Krushna who tells her to leave Prem but Nandini is adamant to save her marriage. The following day Prem goes to see Nandini at Gautam's house and forgive her for keeping the truth from him, he realises that he was wrong for going against her. Nandini's father in law refuses to accept her as his daughter in law and forces her and Prem to leave the house, they decide to stay at Gautam's house until they find a place of their own. Prem struggles to find a job to support Nandini and himself, but is finally approached by Krushna with a job offer, he accepts the offer unaware of the fact that Krushna was the one who raped Nandini. Krushna challenges Nandini to accept defeat and surrender herself to him or put Prem's life in danger. Nandini agrees to go and meet Krushna at a deserted place where she pretends to surrender herself and accept Krushna, as a result Krushna confesses the whole truth of how he raped Nandini and that he only wants to own her. Prem and Sonakshi (Krushna's wife) overhear the entire the conversation. Prem gets angry and gets into a fight with Krushna, a blast occurs in which Krushna dies and Prem survives, but Prem tells the police that he killed Krushna and is arrested. Nandini and Gautam struggle to find a lawyer to fight Prem's case and release him for something he didn't do. On the courts first hearing their lawyer does not turn up and so Sumati, who has a law degree, steps in to fight the case. Sumati fights the case against Sonakshi's lawyer, who happens to be Sumati's law teacher. Sumati and Nandini try to collect many pieces of evidence to strengthen their case against Krushna, however all of their efforts are ruined because Sumati's mother sabotages their proof, because she wants her son's murderer punished. Jayshree finds out that Krushna is alive as he survived the blast and is now in hiding, so she helps him in sabotaging Nandini's evidence. Nandini is finally compelled to tell the court that Krushna raped her and made her life miserable, which is why she was so involved with him. Nandini finds the doctor that treated her when she was raped and gave birth to her stillborn baby and asks her to testify against Krushna to save Prem, the doctor agrees but then goes against Nandini in the greed of money. Nandini sees Krushna and realises he's alive, but she struggles to gather evidence to prove that he is alive. Finally, Sonakshi finds out that her husband is alive and confesses this to the entire court. Meanwhile, Kalyani is contacted by an anonymous caller saying that he has the evidence of Krushna being alive, so she and Nandini go to collect the evidence, Krushna finds out and also reaches this place and snatches the evidence from them. Whilst trying to save the evidence Kalyani falls from a building floor and is badly injured, she is rushed to hospital. Kalyani dies in hospital, giving Nandini and Prem all the more the reason to seek revenge from Krushna. During the next court hearing, Gautam stands in the witness box and claims that he was the one who raped Nandini and killed Krushna out of anger hoping that this will awaken Krushna's sleeping humanity. Krushna cannot endure the guilt and the situation that has separated him from his family, he decides to go to the court and confess of all of his crimes. He is therefore punished and Sumati wins the case. Nandini returns to her in laws and the family becomes busy in preparing for Prapti's wedding. Prem and Nandini are happy that they're together, but Prem keeps getting mysterious calls from someone claiming that there is still something hidden from Nandini's past. Prem decides to meet this person, the person tells Prem that Nandini's baby that she gave birth to is still alive and in an orphanage, turns out that Nandini gave birth to a child but it was switched with another couple's stillborn child. Prem tells Gautam this who is confused, considering he performed the last rites of the stillborn baby with his own hands, but they go to the orphanage to see the child. Nandini follows them and ends up at the orphanage as well, she sees that a little girl named Mithoo is in the room, who is in fact the child that she gave birth to. Nandini is unable to accept Mithoo because she is constantly reminded of the incident and that Mithoo is a part of Krushna. Prem wants to accept Mithoo and regards her as his daughter, but wants Nandini to equally accept her. Nandini finally accepts Mithoo and they all live happily ever after!
