Dhananjay Mahadik

Dhananjay Mahadik is an Indian politician from Kolhapur district in Maharashtra state.[1] He is Member of parliament, Lok Sabha from Kolhapur constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha after winning the Indian general election, 2014 being candidate of Nationalist Congress Party.[2]

Political career

In 2004, Mahadik had contested the Lok Sabha election as a candidate of Shiv Sena from Kolhapur against NCP's Sadashivrao Mandlik but lost. After that he parted ways with Shiv Sena and joined Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). But NCP did not consider him as the party's candidate for the Indian general election, 2009. He then unsuccessfully contested the election as an Independent candidate.

Mahadik urged the members of his party and also the Indian National Congress politicians to support him by saying "The NCP and the Congress have forged an alliance at the national and the state level. I expect the local Congress leaders to stick to it and extend support to me."[2]

Mahadik filed his nomination for the 2014 general elections on 24 March.[3]

On 10 January 2017, Mahadik, along with NCP MLA Hasan Mushrif, former NCP MP Nivedita Sambhajirao Mane, Kolhapur mayor Hasina Faras, and 400 others were arrested for blocking traffic on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway as part of a protest against the effects of demonetization.

He received Sansad Ratna Award for his outstanding performance in 2017 [4] and 2018 [5]
