Detective Conan: Zero The Enforcer (名探偵コナン ゼロの執行人, Meitantei Conan: Zero no Shikkounin) is a 2018 Japanese animated crime thriller film directed by Kobun Shizuno and written by Takahiro Okura. It was the twenty-second installment of the Case Closed film series based on the manga series of the same name by Gosho Aoyama, following the 2017 film Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter. The film was released on April 13, 2018[1]

Case

Situation

Located in Tokyo Bay, the newly built integrated resort and convention centre "Edge of Ocean" is going to host an upcoming Summit Meeting. On May the 1st, prior to the opening ceremony, more than 22,000 police officers are securing the building when a large-scale explosion occurs. On the spot is Tōru Amuro from the National Public Security Police. Conan wondered why the explosion occurred days before instead of during the summit, and noted the suspicious behaviour of Amuro. Investigations found incriminating fingerprints at the crime scene which match Kogoro Mouri's when checked against all past and present police personnel.

A strange past hacking case emerged in which Amuro was blamed for the suicide of the suspect, who is linked to the characters involved in the present case. When prosecutors were filing charges against Kogoro, a series of explosions went off all over Tokyo City. As Conan and the Public Security probe into the conspiracy behind the case, they noted the past hacking case was of the American space agency which happened to be managing the return of an unmanned Martian mission craft called "White Swan" ("Hakuchō"), its scheduled re-entry coinciding with the summit schedule as well as programmed to land off Tokyo Bay.

Box office

Debuting on 384 screens with Toho distributing, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer earned $12.1 million on 1,012,000 admissions in its first weekend and ranked number-one on Japanese box office. The 22nd Conan feature film earned 8.2 billion yen from its domestic run, becoming the 9th top-grossing Japanese animation film of all-time, and the top-grossing film in the Detective Conan anime franchise, surpassing the 21st film Crimson Love Letter that grossed 6.87 billion yen in 2017.[3]
