Defne Joy Foster (May 2, 1979 – February 2, 2011) was an American Turkish actress, presenter and VJ.

Early life

Defne was born on May 2, 1979 in İncirlik, Turkey.[2][3] Her father Steve is an African American and her mother Hatice is a Turk from İzmir. Defne (sometimes rendered as "Daphne" or "Daphné" in some sources) did her studies in Alsancak primary school and at İzmir Özel Fatih Lisesi, a private school, also in İzmir.[4]

Career

Defne first appeared on TV screens as a VJ on Kral TV and later went into acting on various TV series.[5] She last participated in Yok Böyle Dans, the Turkish version of Dancing with the Stars, where she finished 4th, having been eliminated in January 2011.[5]

Death

Defne was found dead at her friend Kerem Altan's apartment in Istanbul on February 2, 2011.[5][6][7][8] She was thought to have died from respiratory difficulty and a heart attack.[9] The results of an autopsy were expected by mid-March 2011.[10] In February 2015 journalist Halit Kerem Altan was sentenced to two months in prison for waiting over two hours after Foster fell unconscious before calling emergency services.[11]
