David Vincent Leslie Ames (born 25 June 1989) is a British international field hockey player who plays as a midfielder for England and Great Britain.

Ames plays club hockey in the England Hockey League Premier Division for Holcombe Hockey Club.

He represented Ireland playing 64 matches from 2008 to 2013, before declaring to play for England and Great Britain.[1] He was ineligible for selection between 2013 and 2015.[2] Ames made his full international debut for Great Britain on 14 May 2015, in a 1-1 draw against Argentina.[3]

He was a member of the England squad that finished fourth at the 2015 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship and the Great Britain squad who finished fourth at the 2016 Men's Hockey Champions Trophy.[4] On 28 June 2016, Ames was named in the men's hockey squad to represent Great Britain at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.[5] He was part of the England squad that won bronze at the 2017, Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship in Amstelveen, defeating Germany 4-2 in the 3rd/4th Playoff.[6]

He began playing hockey at Cookstown High School where he captained the 1st XI hockey team to their first and only All Ireland Schools (Boys) Hockey Championship in 2007.[7]

Ames has previously played for Beeston Hockey Club and Cookstown Hockey Club.
