Daniel Rosenthal (born 1991) is an American Democratic Party politician who has since 2017 represented the 27th District in the New York State Assembly, which includes portions of the New York City borough of Queens. When he took office, he was the Assembly's youngest member. The 27th District covers all or parts of Flushing, Kew Gardens, Utopia, Forest Hills, Glendale, Middle Village Corona, Flushing, Jackson Heights, Auburndale and Clearview.[1]

Life and career

Rosenthal was born in 1991 and raised in Manalapan Township, New Jersey.[2] He graduated from Lander College before entering into public service.[3] In 2011, he entered public service as a staffer for then-Assemblyman Rory Lancman and remained on his staff after Lancman was elected to the New York City Council. Most recently, Rosenthal served as the District Director for Council Member Rory Lancman, who represents the same portions of Queens.[4]

New York Assembly

When Assemblymember Michael Simanowitz, who had served since 2011, died of cancer, a special election was called by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for November 7, 2017.[5] New York state law allowed for the Democratic District committee for the Assembly district to select the candidate for the general election, bypassing a primary for seat.[6] Rosenthal was selected by the committee.[7]

Rosenthal won the election unopposed, and was seated soon after.[8] When he was sworn into office in he was the youngest serving member in the Assembly.[2]
