Damon Ray Leichty is an American lawyer from Indiana who is a nominee to become a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana.
Education
Leichty earned his Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Wabash College and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law.[1]
Legal career
After graduation from law school, Leichty served as a law clerk to Judge Robert Lowell Miller Jr. of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. He went on to join Barnes & Thornburg as an associate. He is currently a partner at the firm where his practice focuses on complex civil litigation, including federal products liability cases.[1]
Leichty is currently an adjunct professor at Notre Dame Law School, where he teaches product liability law.[2] He has taught there since 2017.
Nomination to district court
On July 13, 2018, President Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Leichty to a seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana.
On July 17, 2018, his nomination was sent to the Senate. President Trump nominated Leichty to the seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana vacated by Judge Robert Lowell Miller Jr., who took senior status on January 11, 2015.[3] His nomination is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
