DB Fernverkehr

DB Fernverkehr AG (German for "DB Long-Distance Traffic") is a semi-independent division of Deutsche Bahn that operates long-distance passenger trains in Germany.^[1] It was founded in 1999 in the second stage of the privatisation of Deutsche Bahn, under the name of DB Reise&Touristik and was renamed in 2003.

DB Fernverkehr operates all InterCityExpress and Intercity trains^[2] in Germany as well as several EuroCity trains throughout Europe. Unlike its sister companies, DB Regio and DB Schenker Rail (formerly Railion and before that DB Cargo), DB Fernverkehr still holds a de facto monopoly in its segment of the market, as it operates hundreds of trains per day. All of its competitors' long-distance services, combined, run no more than 15 trains per day.
