Cuba Solidarity Campaign is a British organisation that campaigns against the US embargo of Cuba, for an end to the US occupation of Cuban land at Guantanamo Bay, and to defend the Cuban people’s right to be free from foreign intervention.[1]

Aims

CSC campaigns to end the illegal US blockade of Cuba, for the return of the US-occupied land of Guantanamo Bay to be returned to Cuba, and for the defence of its peoples' right to self-determination and national sovereignty.

Activities

The Campaign operates travel tours to Cuba.[2]

Supporters

Jeremy Corbyn, Labour MP for Islington North and Leader of the Labour Party since 2015,[3] is a well-known long-time supporter of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign. In July 2016, in the midst of a leadership challenge and on the day that Theresa May was appointed leader of the Conservative Party, Corbyn surprised reporters by going to address the Cuba Solidarity Campaign. He was criticised by those who "pointed out the Cuban regime’s record on human rights was poor and included imprisoning trade unionists."[4] Following the death of Cuban leader Fidel Castro in November 2016, Corbyn said "Fidel Castro’s death marks the passing of a huge figure of modern history, national independence and 20th century socialism."[5]
