Cosmopolitodus is an extinct genus of sharks. Its only species is currently Cosmopolitodus hastalis.
Fossil reports
This genus is known in the fossil records from the Oligocene to the Pliocene (age range: from 34 to 3.6 million years ago). Fossils are found in the marine strata in the Pliocene of Libya, the Netherlands, Portugal,India,Italy and in the Miocene of Chile, the Czech Republic, France, Malta, the Netherlands, Peru and Portugal.[1]
