The fifth cycle of America's Next Top Model premiered on September 21, 2005 on UPN. Two of the judges from the previous cycle did not retain their positions on the show. Janice Dickinson was replaced by former model Twiggy, and Nolé Marin was replaced by runway coach J. Alexander.
The prizes for this cycle included a modeling contract with Ford Models, a fashion spread and cover in Elle magazine, and a US$100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics. The winner of the competition was 19-year-old Nicole Linkletter from Grand Forks, North Dakota. Sixth-placer Lisa D'Amato would later claim victory as the winner of cycle 17.
The international destination during this cycle was London, England.

The Girl With The Twisted Catchphrase

The thirty-six semi-finalists went through interviews with Jay Manuel, Tyra Banks, and J. Alexander. The group was later cut down to twenty. Those twenty went on to participate in a fashion show where they were judged by J. Alexander and Jay Manuel and later had a one-on-on with Tyra. The remaining twenty were cut down to thirteen.
The Girls Become Superheroes
First aired September 21, 2005
The thirteen finalists walked in a fashion show at an event for Life & Style magazine, where they had to do their own hair and makeup. The models were later suspended in the air for a photo shoot in which they had to portray superheroes. Nik received best picture at judging. Ashley and Sarah landed in the bottom two, and Ashley was eliminated from the competition.

The Girl Who Needs A Miracle

The twelve remaining finalists received makeovers and had a photo shoot to show off their new hairstyles. They later competed in a challenge where they had to buy an outfit that fit their new personal style, with the winner being Lisa. The photo shoot had them competing against a fellow finalist in the same outfit and country setting. At elimination, Cassandra received best picture. Diane and Ebony landed in the bottom two, and Ebony was eliminated from the competition.

The Girl Who Makes A Disclaimer

The eleven remaining finalists had a runway lesson with Miss J. They later took part in a runway competition with designer Sue Wong, which was won by Bre. The models also had a green screen photo shoot where they had to portray fashion victims on a moving runway. Cassandra refused to have her hair cut shorter during the shoot, and decided to leave the competition. At elimination, Jayla received best picture. Kim and Sarah landed in the bottom two, and Sarah was eliminated from the competition.

The Girl Who Gets A Boob Job
First aired October 12, 2005
The nine remaining finalists took part in an exercise in which they had to determine each other's body flaws. They later participated in a photo shoot challenge where they had to accentuate and work their flaws. Kyle was deemed to be the best performer, winning an outing at a spa with two friends of her choosing. On set, the models had a plastic surgery photo shoot shot by Janice Dickinson. At elimination, Kyle received best photo. Bre and Diane landed in the bottom two, and Diane was eliminated from the competition.

The Girl Who Loves Bubbles And Talks To Plants

The eight remaining finalists were introduced to Iman, and later participated in a mock interview challenge in which they had to advertise an organic face mask. As the winner of the challenge, Kyle received the opportunity of hosting a television segment for VH1. On set, the models had to shoot a campaign and commercial for Secret deodorant. They also had an interview for Entertainment Tonight. At elimination Coryn and Nik landed in the bottom two, and Coryn was eliminated from the competition.

The Girls Who Are 1940s Pin-ups

The remaining models received a visit from Tyra for a surprise black and white photo shoot, and later participated in an obstacle course challenge followed by a go see interview with representatives from Elle Girl magazine. As the winner of the challenge, Lisa was given the opportunity of being coached by an industry expert. On set the contestants had to pose as 1940's pin-up girls in an ad for Ford Fusion. At elimination, Kim received best picture. Bre and Kyle landed in the bottom two, and Kyle was eliminated from the competition.

The Girl Whose Boyfriend Is Cheating On Her

The six remaining finalists took part in a challenge which involved creating a presentation for a go-see to star in a guest role on Veronica Mars. Kim was chosen as the best overall performer. At the photo shoot, the models had to pose with the cast of MTV's Wildboyz. At elimination, Bre received best photo. Jayla and Nicole landed in the bottom two, but were both allowed to remain in the competition, as Tyra revealed that all six contestants would be traveling to London for the remainder of the competition.

The Girl Who Is On The Cover

The final three contestants, Nik Pace, Nicole Linkletter, and Bre Scullark, shot photographs and a commercial for Cover Girl. Bre became the eleventh finalist to be eliminated at panel. Nik and Nicole did their photo shoot for Elle Girl magazine and walked in a runway show for Gharani Strok. The final judging saw Nicole crowned America's Next Top Model.
