Corey Landon Maze (born January 4, 1978)[2] is an American lawyer who currently serves as Special Deputy Attorney General for the State of Alabama. He has been nominated to become a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.

Education

Maze earned his Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Auburn University and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center.[3]

From 2008 to 2011, Maze served as the Solicitor General of Alabama. Before his appointment as Solicitor General, Maze prosecuted criminal trials and appeals for five years as an Assistant Attorney General. During that period, he argued three cases in the Supreme Court of the United States and won three "Best Brief Awards" from the National Association of Attorneys General.[3]

Since 2011, Maze has served as chief of the Attorney General's Special Litigation unit and has acted as the state's primary counsel in complex civil matters such as the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the ongoing opioid crisis.[3]

Nomination to district court

On May 10, 2018, President Trump nominated Maze to serve as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.[4] On May 15, 2018, his nomination was sent to the Senate. He was nominated to the seat that was vacated by Judge Virginia Emerson Hopkins, who assumed senior status on June 22, 2018. His nomination is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.[5]
