Communitas Charter High School (CCHS) was a progressive charter school in the Blossom Valley area of South San Jose, California, with an enrollment of approximately 60 students. The school was founded and supported by the Young Spirit Foundation.

Academics

Communitas used a combination of project-based and inquiry-based learning in its curriculum, focusing on applying a multidisciplinary approach to solving real-world problems. Integrated Studies at Communitas is a multidisciplinary approach from the subjects of English, social studies, and the sciences to help answer questions related to solving real-world problems.[1]

Campus

The school was located on 4849 Pearl Avenue, San Jose, California and shared its campus with Erikson school near Ohlone-Cheynoweth Light Rail Station.

Closure

On May 20, 2013, the Communitas Board of Directors voted to close the school due to financial and enrollment difficulties. On October 24, 2013, controversy was raised in a report by the San Jose Mercury News relating to former students being denied credit by the Campbell Union High School District for the classes they had taken in their year at Communitas.[2]
