The Colorado Springs Pioneer League team is a yet-to-be-named Minor League Baseball team that will begin play as a member of the Pioneer League in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2019 as the rookie affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.[1] They will play their home games at Security Service Field which opened in 1988 and seats 8,500 people.[2] The team's name will be decided in name-the-team contest.[3]
History
On June 21, 2017, David G. Elmore, president of Elmore Sports Group, announced a relocation plan involving several of its teams. The Helena Brewers Rookie Pioneer League franchise will move to Colorado Springs in 2019. The team will continue to compete in the league under a new nickname.[3] The Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox of the Pacific Coast League will relocate to San Antonio, where they will continue in the PCL as the San Antonio Missions. The current San Antonio Double-A Texas League franchise will relocate to Amarillo, Texas as a yet-to-be-named team.[4]
The five finalists in the name-the-team contest are Colorado Springs Happy Campers; Colorado Springs Lamb Chops; Colorado Springs Punchy Pikas; Colorado Springs Throttle Jockeys; and Rocky Mountain Oysters.[5]
