Chitthi (English: Aunt) is a 1966 Indian Tamil film, directed by K. S. Gopalakrishnan. The film stars M. R. Radha, Padmini, R. Muthuraman and Nagesh in lead roles. The film had musical score by M. S. Viswanathan.[1][2] The film was remade in Hindi as Aurat, in Malayalam as Achante Bharya and in Telugu as Pinni and in Kannada as Chikkamma.

Themes

According to the book Beyond Bollywood, Chitthi inverts the proverbial cruelty of the stepmother towards her stepchildren by making her a figure of suffering and sacrifice, protecting the children from her callous and irresponsible husband.[3]
