Dr. Chen Man Hin (Chinese: 曾敏兴) is a Malaysian politician from Democratic Action Party. He won the contest in the 1965 by-elections. He won in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan state in 1974. He contested under the DAP ticket against Barisan Nasional. Since 1965, he has been in DAP politics fighting for justice, democracy and security as the DAP struggles.
In 1999, DAP launched the Langkawi Project and formed Barisan Alternatif with PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat.
Early life
Chen Man Hin was born in China and sailed to Malaya at a young age, before the Second World War. In 1946, he studied at King Edward VII Medical College in Singapore and graduated in 1952. He then worked as a doctor in Singapore and then Hospital Seremban until 1956, when opening his own clinic.
Political career
Chen Man Hin became the founder of DAP in Seremban with other leaders such as Lim Kit Siang, Dr. Tan Seng Giaw, lawyers Karpal Singh (CEC) and Hu Sepang. Later, he was appointed as DAP's Advisor. The DAP headquarters was then located at Choo Teik Building, Seremban. In 1980s Negeri Sembilan was a stronghold of the DAP. Negeri Sembilan has 7 parliamentary seats and 32 seats. [1]
DAP's early leaders are Chan Tech Chan, Dr Liew Ji Sheng, Lim Koon Jie, Chan Kok Kit, Wang Rui Ai, Walter Loh (Setapak), Devan Nair (Secretary-General, later Singapore President), Lee Ming Chang and Goh Hock Guan . Other leaders include Lai Teo Kuan, Mahdevan Nair, Ibrahim Sengel (Assemblyman), Richard Ho (Setiawan parliament), Fadzlan Yahya and Nor Jetty as Deputy Chairman of DAP. Dr. Siva as Treasurer.
The DAP assemblyman in Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Lee Yuen Fong (Temiang) and Yip Chee Keong (Lobak) joined MCA. In 2004, DAP secretary-general, Kerk Kim Hock had competed in Lukut. Lim Fui Ming (Bahau Assembly) leave the party in 2007. [2]
Elections
Following the death of MCA Assemblyman in Rahang, Negeri Sembilan, Chen Man Hin was contesting as Independent and he won. The Rahang by election was held on December 9, 1965. He used the 'cherry blossom' symbol. At that time, the DAP was in the process of establishing and successfully registered on March 18, 1966. The victory allowed him to be the DAP national chairman. In the 1964 Malaysian General Election, the opposition was severely beaten by the split of the People's Party and the Labor Party. People's Party, under the leadership of Ahmad Boestamam, is still in jail, protesting against the actions of the Labor Party who questioned the position of the Malay language. Labour Party chairman Lim Kean Siew, MP Keramat and Black Water Assemblyman, Penang, questioned Malay as the medium of instruction in Malaysia. [3]
He subsequently won the Elections of 1978 and 1986. In 1986, DAP won 24 parliamentary seats and 56 state seats.
In 1999, he lost to Rasah, Negeri Sembilan to Datuk Goh Siow Huat (BN).[4] In 1999, Lim Kit Siang and Karpal Singh lost their seats in Penang but PAS won big in Terengganu and formed the government. Many of the leaders of UMNO were defeated, including Tan Sri Wan Mokhtar Ahmad; Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Othman; Yusof Noor; Datuk Dr. Ibrahim Saad; Datuk Ibrahim Ali; Datuk Idris Jusoh; Datuk Abu Bakar Daud; Datuk Tengku Mansor Mahmud; Datuk Seri Megat Junid Megat Ayub (Parit); Second Finance Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed (Jeli) and; Rural Development Minister, Datuk Annuar Musa (Peringat)[5]
