Charles Chvala (born December 5, 1954) is a Wisconsin politician and legislator.

Born in Merrill, Wisconsin, Chvala graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and received his law degree there.

In 1983, he served in the Wisconsin State Assembly as a Democratic lawmaker. He served in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1985 until his indictment in 2003.[1][2]

On October 17, 2002 he was charged with 20 felony counts, including extortion, misconduct in public office and filing false reports with the state Elections Board. He pleaded guilty to two counts, and was sentenced to nine months in jail with two years of probation for his part in the state Capitol corruption scandal. The so-called scandal was controversial, as some believed it was grossly overblown. For example, in the case of Republican Assembly Majority Leader Scott Jensen, who was the only one involved in the scandal who actually went to trial, he served no jail time.[3]
