Suhani Si Ek Ladki was an Indian television soap opera, which was premiered on Star Plus on 9 June 2014.[1] It starred Sahil Mehta, Rajshri Rani and Karan Jotwani in lead roles. The show aired daily at 5 p.m. The show took two leaps in 2016. The Show Went Off Air on 21 May 2017 due to dwindling TRPs and change in time slot that 06:30 pm and then shifted to 05:00 pm.[2]

Plot summary

Suhani Si Ek Ladki is about young love and extended family dynamics. Suhani is an average looking yet free spirited and kind girl who loves everyone. Her best friend is Soumya, a very beautiful girl. Yuvraj, a rich boy who values beauty secretly falls in love with Soumya, who is in an arranged marriage with Yuvraj and believes they are already in love. At a certain point in the story, Yuvraj confesses his love to Soumya, who is shocked because she thought he loved Suhani, and because she is also in love with a boy named Krishna.

Soumya marries Krishna against her mother's wish. Suhani's father works up a plan to blackmail Yuvraj into marrying his daughter, and they end up marrying each other. Soumya's new mother-in-law and sister-in-law hate her which causes frequent arguments between Soumya and Krishna.

Likewise, Suhani's grandmother-in-law (Yuraj's grandmother) hates Suhani because she thinks she is not beautiful enough. The plot thickens as two new people in the story, Menaka and Ragini convince Dadi to win the heart of Soumya in order to bring Soumya back in Yuvraj's life. Suhani brings Soumya to Birla House as she thinks that Krishna is torturing her. Dadi, Ragini and Menaka make many attempts to bring Soumya close to Yuvraj, but Pratima and Sharad oppose them. Dadi troubles Suhani.

Eventually Soumya falls in love with Yuvraj and tries to come between Suhani and Yuvraj. Suhani remains unaware. Soumya makes many attempts to impress Yuvraj and finally confesses her love but Yuvraj has no feelings for her. Soumya, Dadi, Ragini & Menaka try to keep Suhani away from Yuvraj but Yuvraj is on Pratima and Sharad's side as he knows that Soumya is too clever and Suhani is innocent. Soumya plans to befriend Yuvraj and acts sweet to the innocent Suhani so she can take Suhani's place without her knowledge. Yuvraj finds out about Soumya's intentions and bad deeds. Suhani comes to know the truth about her marriage and is heartbroken. Yuvraj makes a plan with her in order to throw Soumya out of the house. Meanwhile, Yuvraj falls into unrealized love for Suhani and takes Suhani's help to get Krishna and Soumya together again.

They eventually get married and Soumya leaves the house but more problems arise. Suhani leaves the house because she has a strong belief that there is no relationship without love. Then the family is being cheated by Mr Saxena, the man in charge of their company. Yuvraj's mom, thinking quickly, gets Suhani back from her parents to help them. Yuvraj's grandma, however, is not very happy with this decision. Therefore, she says that if Suhani cannot catch the man who cheated them, or expose Mr Saxena, in 24 hours, then she would kick her out of the house again. Suhani eventually manages to catch the man, but someone tampers with her evidence, which brings her back to square one and at the risk of losing her husband again. Then another problem arises when Krishna is sent to jail for stealing Birla company's money. Then Suhani manages to bring thieves out and tells all the family members that you have to put your effort to bring the name of Birlas again but for that you have to go in company and have to work hard.

After so many happenings, a love triangle is formed between Suhani, Yuvraj and Rohan, a lawyer and Daadi's relative. In latter part, it is shown that Rohan and Suhani are going to marry, but a sudden entry of Yuvraj and confession of his love to Suhani changes Rohan's mind. Then a twist came that is Amit, husband of Bhavna dies and Bhavna is married to Sharad and is in Birla house with her child. Daadi plans to create misunderstanding between two sisters. Later Yuvraj plans for an outing with Suhani seeing the problems between Bhavna and Suhani. There they find a mysterious girl with a mask, who saves Suhani from death. Later, they take her to their home and Suhani starts proving everyone that it is Yuvraj's lost sister Gauri. But no one believes. Therefore, Yuvraj does a secret DNA test and find out that she is Birla's daughter. Later Gauri falls in love with Aditya and after passing hurdles, they marry.

After that, a new character comes named Barbie. She is Suhani's baby's surrogate mother.She and Dadi plans to separate Yuvraaj and Suhani.In order to do so, she kidnaps Suhani and Dadi forces her to marry Yuvraj. Everyone believes that Suhani has died but she is saved and returns. She comes to know that barbie secretly loves Yuvraj and she has faked her pregnancy i.e. Barbie is not pregnant and is only acting. Soon Barbie kidnaps Pratima and tries to kill her but Yuvraaj and the entire Birla family save her on Holi.

Then it is revealed that Suhani, as well as Soumya, is pregnant. Later, Barbie's brother, Sajan and Barbie does a conspiracy. They plant a bomb in Birla's farmhouse. The bomb blasts kills Krishna and Gauri. Here the show takes a leap.

7 years later

After a fire in the farmhouse, Suhani has had twins, Yuvaan and Yuvani, but because of a separation, Yuvaan, a sporty and sensible boy, is living with Suhani, Bhavna, Golu (Anant) and Sharad in Uttar Pradesh. Yuvraaj is now living with Soumya and her daughter, Krishna - and his daughter Yuvani - a slightly spoilt girl who wants to look the best due to talks from Daadi. The reason for Soumya being with Yuvraaj is not known at this stage, but it is assumed that Gauri (Yuvraj's sister) and Krishna (Soumya's husband) have died in the house fire that occurred 6 years ago due to a plot by Barbie and her brother Saajan, and that Soumya is helping the Birla's keep their family together and make sure the girls grow up with parents. Yuvraaj has split up with Suhani due to the Saajan incident that he claimed he would hold her responsible for. It is unclear where Soumya's 2nd child is as it was shown that Soumya was expecting twins at the same time as Suhani.

7 years later, Suhani's look and style has changed with her becoming a fashion designer, who has a stricter personality at her workplace. She appears to have taken traits that a character like Daadi would have. Menaka has a one year old child known as 'Babu' - recently revealed as an adopted child, while the new house maid (Rama) is constantly winding Ragini up to make sure her place in the house doesn't disappear due to the new baby - which Daadi considers only a good daughter-in-aw would give her.

On 19 April 2016, it was revealed that Krishna had died in the fire when he went back inside to save Gauri, who also died. Yuvraj held Suhani responsible for the loss of his sister and the loss of her friend's husband and for keeping Saajan in the house against his will and told her to go so far away that their memories would be forgotten along with her. Soon Suhani comes to know that Yuvani is her daughter and she founds out that Daadi had lied to her. She goes to Birla house along with Yuvan and Sharad. Yuvraj had left for US trip before Suhani came.

After that, Suhani and yuvraaj decided to marry each other again for their kids. Then at the ceremony, Daadi kidnapped Yuvraj so from that Sambhav could marry Suhani. Then Suhani lives with Sambhav in her house with Yuvaan. Then Daadi tried to kill Suhani and Suhani goes to trauma for a few days. Yuvraaj and other house members tried to find out the culprit by taking all family members' fingerprints but Sambhav saved daadi by making the reports false and all the blame goes to Yuvraaj. Suhani is still in trauma and Yuvraaj is trying to find out the culprit.

Then it is revealed that Daadi has a twin sister who did all of this with the help of Sambhav. Daadi's twin sister had kidnapped the real Daadi, but Suhani managed to rescue her and the fake Daadi went to jail.

Sambhav hasn't been caught yet, so he starts to mistreat Suhani. He plants a bomb in a watch on Yuvan's wrist to threaten her, so Suhani can't tell anyone. Yuvraj manages to find out and he eventually helps Suhani defeat Sambhav. It comes with costs though. Sambhav shoots Yuvraj in the leg and then Suhani gets raped by him, before Yuvraj and Suhani come together to defeat Sambhav once and for all. They burn him alive.

20 Years later

20 years later, the show starts in Goa where Suhani lives with Pratima and Krishna. They had a shack over there. Suhani isn't speaking with Dadi properly and there is no sign of Yuvraj's whereabouts.

Later in the story, it is seen that Suhani and Sambhav have a child (Sayyam) who comes back to avenge his father's death and meets the Birla family, causing problems for them.

After some time, it is revealed that Yuvraaj is alive and was in jail for Sambhav's murder. Yuvraj comes to the Birla house as Kumar without his children knowing that it's their father. Baby enters the show as Sayyam's girlfriend and supports Sayyam in causing harm to the Birlas. Later she will trap Yuvan, pretending to be in love with him. Sayyam comes to know that Kumar is Yuvraj and he misunderstands Yuvraj is the one who killed his father.

Later, the truth of Kumar is revealed. Sayyam attempts many times to take Yuvraj's life, failing to do so as Suhani always intervenes. In one attempt, Sayyam forces Suhani to marry Krishna with him in order to save Yuvraj's life (Sayyam is 7 years younger than Krishna).

However,it is reveal that Sambhav is alive and is in the Birla house as Yuvraj and real Yuvraj is actually kidnapped by Sambav. Without knowing this, Suhani agrees for the marriage of Sayyam and Krishna. Along with that, she announces the marriage of Baby and Yuvan. Sayyam marries Krishna and Yuvan marries Baby. Krishna starts hating Suhani as she made her marry Sayyam.

Sayyam and Krishna have a battle of hate while Baby enjoys her luxurious married life with Yuvan. But Krishna and Sayyam gradually fall in love. Another interesting thing is that despite the fact that Sayyam pretends to hate Suhani, he actually loves her a lot and gets outraged when someone insults Suhani. Suhani and Dadi soon find out that Sambhav is still alive and is disguised as Yuvraj and they join hands to defeat him and save the real Yuvraj. Later Sayyam finds out the truth about Sambhav and attempts to kill him. Though he is stopped by Suhani and Yuvraaj.

Yuvaan dislikes the fact of Sayyam living with them and tries to leave home. But the issue gets solved when Baby and Yuvaan get kidnapped. Yuvaan fights a tiger and also stops Sayyam and Krishna from leaving home. He gets attacked by a tiger. Which turns out is him being controlled by Baby as he is under drugs. Krishna tries to make friends with Sayyam, but he refuses. She was about to leave but falls in Sayyam's arm. Which brings along more romance between the two when the tiger attacks. Krishna hugs Sayyam in fear, who carries her to protect her and indirectly admits feelings for her. Their relation develops when Krishna realizes to her feelings for him.

Meanwhile, Dadi gets into an accident because of which she loses partial memory and recalls only her earlier days. She sees Suhani as Mama Mai, Dad's mother-in-law, Sharad as Suhani's husband and Dad's father in law and Yuvraj as their servant Suresh. Dadi thinks Bhavnagar is Suresh/Yuvraj's fiance and tries to get them married.

However the plan is diffused by Sayyam and Yuvan. Yuvan started to realized his mistake for marrying Baby. He tried to win back Krishna's love but later he find outs Krishna falling for her husband Sayyam.

So he started to create rifts between Sayyam and Krishna but it gets an opposite reaction. It makes Krishna and Sayyam even more close. Baby tries to create misunderstanding between Dadi and Suhani. Everyone work together to deal with Baba and Baby. Krishna and Sayyam got intimate for the first time. Krishna became pregnant.

Then after loads of twists and turns, Yuvan dies. Suhani tries to get rid of Baby but she is accused of killing yuvan but Baby killed Yuvan. Baby blackmails yuvraaj to marry her and Suhani is heartbroken. Krishna loses her baby. Yuvraaj tells Suhani and they work together but Baby shoots Yuvraaj before she is arrested and Yuvraaj dies, leaving Suhani so upset.

But she is pregnant with Yuvraaj baby. Later she gives it to Krishna and Sayyam and tells them to always be together. Dadi accepts Suhani. The whole family is together and Suhani remembers Yuvraaj and misses him.

Production

The show was produced by Panorama Entertainment, Suzana Ghai and started on 9 June 2014.[3] The show replaced the popular show Ek Ghar Banaunga.[4]

Talking about the show, Nikhil Madhok, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Programming Strategy, Star Plus said, “With Suhaani Si Ek Ladki, we hope to further strengthen our bond with the youth. Over the last one year, Star Plus' viewership amongst all demographics has increased significantly on the back of fresh engaging content. This show will resonate with them, highlighting their dreams and aspirations and a take on love that they will find refreshing.”[5]

Casting

The show had first casted Rajshri Rani to play Suhani.[6] Sahil Mehta was later casted opposite her as Yuvraj. Then, they Choosed Neha Yadav to play Lead Role. The show also had Leenesh Mattoo, Shashi Sharma.
