Carlos Antonio Ascues Ávila (born 19 June 1992) is a Peruvian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back or defensive midfielder for Major League Soccer club Orlando City SC, on loan from Peruvian Primera División side FBC Melgar. He also plays for the Peru national team.
Club career
Ascues moved up to the Alianza Lima first team in the 2011 season.[1] He finally made his league debut in the Torneo Descentralizado on 15 May 2011 in the 0–2 away win over Sport Huancayo.[2]
On 11 August 2012, Ascues signed for Benfica and was moved to the B-team.[3]
On 21 August 2013, Ascues signed a two-year contract with Panetolikos.[4]
In January 2014, Ascues joined Universidad San Martin in a one-year loan deal.[5]
On 3 February 2015, Ascues signed a two-year contract with Melgar Arequipa of the Primera División Peruana.[6]
On 23 July 2015, Ascues signed a three-year deal with VfL Wolfsburg, who paid Melgar Arequipa €1.5 million to acquire him.[7]
On 1 April 2016, Ascues completed his debut against Bayer Leverkusen, subbing Robin Knoche off.
On 3 January 2017, Ascues rejoined former club FBC Melgar on loan until the end of the 2016–17 Bundesliga season.[8]

International career
He featured for and was captain of the Peru U20 side in 2011.[9] On 6 August 2014, Ascues made his debut in the Peruvian senior team by scoring two goals in a 3–0 win against Panama.
He was a member of the Peru national football team that finished in third place at the 2015 Copa América.
