Cameron Christopher David Chalmers (born 6 February 1997) is a Guernsey born British track and field sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. As well as competing as a Junior athlete at the 2016 U20 World Championships,[1] Chalmers has represented the senior Great Britain team at the 2017 European Team Championships held in Lille and was selected for their relay squad at the World Championships later in the year.

Representing Guernsey, Chalmers won Gold in the 400m at the 2015 Island Games in Jersey.[2] He is the current British U20 champion and also holds the BUCS title. Chalmers is currently ranked 1st for 400m in the Great Britain U23 rankings, and 2nd in the Great Britain senior men's rankings.[3]

In the men's 400m final at the BUCS Championships, Chalmers broke the BUCS record, set 17 years previous, and won his fourth consecutive BUCS 400m title. His time of 45.71 also set a new Guernsey record.[4] In June 2017, Chalmers improved his own Guernsey record time, setting a new personal best of 45.64 as he won the 400m final at the England Athletics U23 Championships in Bedford.[5]

Career

Born in Guernsey, he joined his local athletics club, Guernsey Island Amateur Athletic Club, in 2010. He competed in a variety of events, particularly in 2013 before focusing on 400m from 2014 onwards.[6]

In 2015 Chalmers made his first appearance for Great Britain, competing for GBJ in the 4 × 400 m at the Loughborough International.[7] In the same year he also took the gold medals in both the 400m and 4 × 400 m while representing Guernsey at the Island Games.

At the 2016 World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, Chalmers set a personal best of 46.51 seconds in the semi finals, however he narrowly missed out on the finals, eventually finishing his campaign in 9th.[8]

Shortly before the 2017 Island Games, Chalmers pulled out to focus on representing Great Britain at the 2017 World Championships. On the 11th July Chalmers was announced in the Great Britain relay squad.
