Buurmalsen is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Geldermalsen, and lies about 9 km west of Tiel.

Buurmalsen was a separate municipality from 1818 to 1978, when it became a part of Geldermalsen.[1]

The village is the ancestral home of a President of the United States, Martin Van Buren, whose ancestor Cornelis Maessen immigrated to New Netherland in 1631.

In 2001, the village of Buurmalsen proper had 574 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.15 km², and contained 210 residences.[2] The statistical area "Buurmalsen", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 960.[3]
