Burari is a high class census town in North Delhi District in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, India. MLA of Burari (Delhi Assembly constituency) is Sanjeev Jha from AAP since 2015. A lot of migrated people from UP, Bihar, Uttarakhand, North East and South India reside here. This has led to a lot of variation in culture, language, customs. Burari is a good example of unity in diversity. Other people living in the locality are from Haryana and Punjab.

There is a Mahabharata-era temple called Khandeswar Mandir dedicated to Shiva. It is the place where Arjuna prayed to Shiva before burning the Khandav Prasth (later known as Indraprasth) Van. According to folklore, Krishna came here to graze cows. It was named Murari, which during the Mughal period changed into Burari.

Dattaji Shinde, a Maratha general was killed here on 10 January 1760 in a skirmish while preventing Ahmed Shah Abali from trying to ford the river at the Ghats in the Ahmed Shah Abdalli Maratha war which culminated ultimately in Third Battle Of Panipat.

As of the 2011 India census, population of Burari in 2011 is 146,190; of which male and female are 78,103 and 68,087 respectively. In education section, total literates in Burari are 113,616 of which 64,120 are males while 49,496 are females. Burari has an average literacy rate of 88.98%, higher than the national average of 74.04 %; with male literacy of 94.17% and female literacy of 83.05%.Total children (0-6 years) in Burari are 18,496 as per figure from Census India report on 2011. There are 10,010 boys while 8,486 are girls. The child forms 12.65 % of total population of Burari City.The sex ratio of Burari city is 872 per 1000 males. Child sex ratio of girls is 848 per 1000 boys.

Notable features

Burari comes under North Delhi district and is famous for its 104 yr old Coronation Park, Delhi; the place where Delhi was announced to be the capital of India by British Governor General Irwin. Also it is famous for Delhi's biggest biodiversity area neighbouring to it i.e. "Yamuna Biodiversity Park". It is 0 km from Yamuna river and enclosed by "Grand Trunk Road" from two sides.

The main road of Burari i.e. Shanti Swaroop Tyagi Marg is connecting people of North Delhi to Northwest Delhi, from Burari crossing on Grand Trunk Road to straight away ends at Alipur road National Highway 1 near Splash Water Park

Burari made national headlines in July 2018 because of Burari deaths.
