Billy Woods is an American alternative hip hop artist from New York City. He is the founder of the record label Backwoodz Studioz.[1][2][3][4][5] He is one half of the duo Armand Hammer.[6] He released History Will Absolve Me in 2012.[7] Dour Candy, his solo album entirely produced by Blockhead, was released in 2013.[8][9] His sixth solo album Known Unknowns was released on June 9, 2017 and was included on Rolling Stone's "15 Great Albums You Probably Didn’t Hear in 2017" list.[10]

Life and career

Woods was born in Washington DC, U.S. but has spent much of his life in New York City. He spent much of his childhood in Africa and the West Indies, the second child of a Jamaican intellectual and a would-be Marxist revolutionary.[11]
